Be sure to tune into Ringside Report Radio at 11p.m. on TSN 690 for an exclusive interview with UFC Flyweight champion Demetrious Johnson (@MightyMouseUFC) and a full preview of UFC on FX 7, and recap of Bellator 85.
UFC Flyweight champion Demetrious Johnson (16-2-1, 4-1-1 UFC, 2-1 @ BW, 2-0-1 @FlyW, 2-1 WEC) will be making his first title defense next Saturday in the main event of UFC on FOX 6 against John Dodson. After going the distance in a losing effort to capture the UFC Bantamweight title against Dominick Cruz, Johnson entered the UFC’s inaugural Flyweight tournament. In his first matchup, Johnson initially defeated Ian McCall via majority decision. However, the Australian Athletic Commission miscounted the results, and the bout was declared a draw post fight, in a bout that should have gone to a sudden death forth round. Three months later the two met again, with Johnson winning via unanimous decision to advance into the finals. The finals took place at UFC 152, where Johnson was pitted against the odds on favorite Joseph Benavidez. In a very close back-and-forth fight, Johnson walked away with a split decision and was crowned the first UFC Flyweight champion. His opponent John Dodson winner of TUF 14 Bantamweight tournament, earned his title shot with a TKO victory over renowned Flyweight fighter Jussier Formiga at UFC on FX 5. Hear Johnson’s thoughts on his opponent, being the first UFC Flyweight champion, headlining a FOX event, and much more.
Also on tonight’s program, hear clips from Quinton “Rampage” Jackson, who recently appeared on a UFC conference call. Jackson reveals his quarrels with the UFC, why he’s leaving, and thoughts on his UFC on FOX 6 bout with Glover Teixiera. All this and much more in 2-Hours of MMAgic.
