TUF 15: Episode 3 notes and results

Episode 3. March 23, 2012.
Cristiano Marcello and Justin Lawrence are shown in their locker room. Lawrence v. Marcello is the live fight on this episode.
Chris Tickle (Team Cruz) wears a gas mask to practice that he brought from home with him. He then takes the sign to indicate parking for Team Faber outside the gym.
Justin Lawrence is shown training. He explains that he is from Missouri and grew up in his dad’s gym. He claims to have over 150 amateur bouts. Lawrence says his strength is his striking. Lawrence is the youngest fighter and his Marcello is the oldest on the current season of TUF.
Dominick Cruz says this fight could be a final or semi-final bout and taking out Marcello would be like taking out one of Team Faber’s legs.
Team Cruz assistant coach Eric Delfierro says they want to keep the fight standing and hopefully knock out Marcello with a left-hook knockout.
Dominick Cruz says Chris Tickle tries to make up excuses to avoid training.
Cristiano Marcello is 34 years old, from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. He says: “I eat jiu-jitsu, I breathe jiu-jitsu, everything jiu-jitsu.” Marcello got his black belt from Royler Gracie in 1999.
Team Faber wants Marcello to fight a stand-up fight against Lawrence, him making him think that he wants to take him down. Team Faber assistant coach Justin Buccholz says he thinks this was a bad pick for Team Cruz.
Team Faber puts duct tape on a picture of Dominick Cruz to make him look like Eddie Munster in retaliation for the parking sign prank.
Chris Tickle (Team Cruz) and John Cofer (Team Faber) have a confrontation about a comment Cofer made while passing Team Cruz at the gym. Cofer and Tickle both say they want to fight the other.
Dominick Cruz says Justin Lawrence is “a beast,” but he picked Cristiano Marcello to challenge him. Cruz gets BJJ black belt Wilson Reis to help Lawrence train for Marcello.
Team Cruz puts some string on a picture of Urijah Faber to make a thong for his “butt-chin,” in retaliation for the picture prank.
Cristiano Marcello says he fights for his wife, son and daughter and they give him power.
Justin Lawrence @theamericankidd (3-0 Team Cruz) v. Cristiano Marcello @CristianoBJJ (12-3 Team Faber)
Round 1- Lawrence landed some kicks to the leg and body in a very apprehensive first two minutes for both fighters. Lawrence charged in but landed nothing and Marcello charged back with some punches but landed none as Lawrence ran away. Lawrence landed a push kick that knocked Marcello down momentarily but Marcello got to his feet and landed a body kick of his own. I’d score Round 1 for Justin Lawrence 10-9, but neither man landed many strikes or anything significant.
Round 2- Lawrence landed a leg kick and a punch to the face. The fighters clinched but disengaged and Lawrence landed a solid punch in the first minute of the round. Lawrence pushed Marcello to the mat in a brief clinch and Marcello tried to bait him to follow to the mat but Lawrence did not oblige. Marcello landed a solid knee to the body but Lawrence landed a punch that dropped Marcello. Lawrence landed some left hands that wobbled Marcello and a big left that dropped him and knocked him unconscious.
Justin Lawrence def. Cristiano Marcello via KO (punch) at 3:16 in Round 2
