Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping review

MV5BMjMxMzk2ODI4N15BMl5BanBnXkFtZTgwNzgzNzQ5ODE@._V1_SY1000_CR0,0,631,1000_AL_“I’m not gay” and “Fuck Bin Laden” frequently heard on the new Lonely Island album and in their new movie, Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping, is a taste of the crude comedy in this mockumentary.

Andy Samberg stars as Conner4Real, a pop sensation about to release his new record, has a film crew follow him along as they explain his past, present and eventual launch date. Conner is considered one of the greatest artists of all-time with music icons Jay-Z, Beyonce, and others give him high praise. He is surrounded mainly by yes men, except his DJ, Owen (Jorma Taccone), but he treats him like garbage.

After a failed publicity stunt makes Conner hated throughout the U.S., Conner tours in order to boost his tarnished image. While touring, Conner is upstaged, no one believes he has a penis, and he almosts kills Seal. Conner hits rock bottom.

His last option is to reunite with Owen and their estranged friend Lawrence (Akiva Schaffer) but due to Conner stealing his material and not giving him any credit they never want to work together again.

Ridiculous jokes in a spoof world on the lifestyle of a celebrity is not a new concept, but it is a testament to the quality of Lonely Island to keep the humour entertaining for longer than a few skits. For fans waiting for their new songs to drop they will definitely be satisfied with the numerous tracks in and not in the film. Making the eventual Blu-ray and soundtrack releases buy for fans. If you do not like dumb comedy you should stay away from this, however, if you have any idea who Lonely Island is you will not be surprised. In fact, you will be blown away with how far they push their value to a another level. I’d watch this several times, just for the fake music videos alone.
