WWE: Best of Smackdown! 2009-2010 DVD review – Ringside Report + Wrestling Uncensored

The Rock’s video appearance return to World Wrestling Entertainment starts off a sensational 2009-2010 year for WWE’s blue brand in an extensive compilation three-disc set entitled WWE Smackdown!: The Best of 2009-2010.

Smackdown! is considered to many as the second show for WWE behind WWE’s flagship show Monday Night RAW. This DVD set shows why wrestling fans should be watching WWE on Friday nights, as many times it is far more entertaining and exciting than RAW. Only on Smackdown! do you get to see Rey Mysterio, The Undertaker, Kane, the Big Show, Drew McIntyre, Alberto Del Rio, and plenty more WWE superstars.

Mysterio and The Undertaker are easily the most featured stars on the DVD and at some points in the past year Smackdown! revolved around them. Taker defending his world championship or Mysterio finally getting the better of WWE alum Batista, showed why these two individuals are the measuring stick for the show.

The rise and fall of the Straight Edge Society is well-documented throughout the three-discs. There are small video packages describing what happened in each month on the show. Glad to see that WWE showcased all of the major storylines and feuds on Smackdown!. Although Mickie James left WWE early in 2010, she still had a major angle on the show feuding with LayCool in the infamous ‘Piggy James’ storyline.

As you explore the latter parts of this DVD set, you’ll notice how much McIntyre is heavily featured. Newcomers Kaval and Del Rio are also shown in matches for the first time on WWE DVD. The evolution of Jack Swagger and Dashing Cody Rhodes showed how Smackdown! is slowly generating new stars.

If you’re wondering why Kane attacked The Undertaker and how Dolph Ziggler became Intercontinental Champion, this three-disc set will definitely get you caught up with the way Smackdown! currently stands. No doubt you get a wide variety of matches and zany moments—Jack Swagger and Rey Mysterio getting thrown into the Gulf of Mexico does not happen every episode.
