The world of pro wrestling took a bold step forward as WWE launched its “Netflix era,” Dave Simon and Johnny North were ready to unpack it all during the 715th episode of Wrestling Uncensored. As always, the hosts shared their thoughts on the week’s events in WWE and AEW, diving deep into how streaming changes the game for fans and the company itself. From production upgrades to storyline shifts, the episode highlighted this new chapter’s buzz and missteps.

WWE on Netflix: A Game-Changer or a Gimmick?
The move to Netflix marks a bold shift for WWE, and the hosts had plenty to say about its impact. The streaming giant’s integration has brought a level of accessibility and convenience that fans have long desired. “The Netflix experience has been smooth and easy,” Dave said, reflecting on how intuitive it was to find and watch WWE content compared to its previous home on SportsNet. Johnny was even more enthusiastic: “It’s unbelievable how much better it is. You can connect on your phone, TV, or computer instantly—none of the bugs or issues we used to deal with.”
The cost difference between the platforms also came up, with Johnny highlighting Netflix’s affordability: “It’s only $6.89 a month, compared to $17 for SportsNet. And honestly, there’s already more WWE content here than I could ever find on SportsNet.” This sentiment echoed fan excitement about WWE archives being more accessible, a feature often lacking on cable platforms.
Improved Viewing Experience
Beyond ease of use, the live-streaming technology impressed the hosts. “I started watching late, and Netflix skipped over the commercials even during the live stream,” Dave pointed out. “That’s nice technology right there!” The hosts also praised Netflix’s approach to commercial breaks during live programming, which replaces traditional ads with countdowns and shots of wrestlers posing—a unique feature that adds to the viewing experience.
However, the transition wasn’t flawless. Dave was critical of the ad-heavy presentation, particularly the new mats used in the ring. “The ads on the mat make it look less clean,” he said. “When you have matches with blood, seeing it on the traditional white mat adds an extra element of drama. This dark mat just doesn’t have the same impact.”
Johnny had his own gripes, taking aim at referee uniforms. “They don’t even look like referee shirts anymore. It’s disappointing to see them lose the distinct blue for SmackDown or the classic stripes,” he noted. Both hosts agreed these changes dulled some of WWE’s signature aesthetics.
Raising the Bar for Presentation
Despite some critiques, the hosts acknowledged the significant improvements in WWE’s overall production. Johnny praised the crisp visuals, saying, “Everything looks so much better. This is next-level stuff by WWE.” He also pointed out how the new Netflix partnership has elevated the presentation of flagship shows like Raw and SmackDown: “The entranceways, the lighting, everything—it’s fantastic.”
Dave added that Netflix’s backing has also brought more mainstream attention to WWE. “You’ve got the biggest Hollywood executives there—Ted Sarandos and Ari Emanuel in the front row,” he said, highlighting the significance of WWE’s newfound place on a global platform. He also joked about The Rock’s interaction with Emanuel: “The guy that Rock kissed on the head—that was Ari Emanuel. He didn’t kiss his daughters but kissed him. It was a choice.”
The move to Netflix represents a significant leap forward for fans who have grown used to cable’s constraints. The hosts agreed that this transition is about convenience and WWE staking its claim in the streaming era. As Johnny summed it up: “It feels like WWE is finally catching up to modern expectations, and that’s exciting for the business.”
The Rock and Cody Rhodes: A Disjointed Reunion
A surprise return by The Rock sparked mixed reactions from the hosts. While some fans celebrated his appearance, the promo left Dave and Johnny scratching their heads. “The Rock didn’t come out as the final boss. We got Dwayne,” Dave quipped, referencing The Rock’s softer approach to Cody Rhodes compared to his usual fierce persona.
Johnny was particularly critical of Cody’s portrayal, noting, “He’s the WWE Champion, but he felt like just another guy at ringside.” The lack of continuity from past feuds made the segment feel out of place, with Dave summarizing it as “a total shift of character for no reason.”
Royal Rumble Predictions: Cena’s Last Run?
With the Royal Rumble just weeks away, the episode turned to predictions. Roman Reigns and John Cena are confirmed entrants, with their paths potentially leading to WrestleMania. Johnny leaned towards Cena facing Gunther, framing it as a David-versus-Goliath story. “Cena’s been putting others over, but Gunther feels like the right match for him,” he said.
Dave, however, took a bolder stance: “I think it’s Cena versus Cody, and Cena wins. This could be his last run, and he deserves one last championship reign.” With Cena reportedly retiring after 2025, the hosts discussed how this storyline could honour his legacy.
AEW Revolution Hype and Kenny Omega’s Next Move
AEW continues to build momentum heading into Revolution, and the hosts took time to break down the latest developments. A significant point of discussion was Kenny Omega’s current role and where his storylines are heading. “Kenny Omega has been a consistent highlight for AEW, but you can tell they’re trying to position him for something big,” Dave remarked.
The discussion turned to Omega’s recent matches and how AEW emphasized his versatility. “Kenny’s ability to deliver top-tier matches week in and week out keeps him in the spotlight, but where’s the payoff?” Johnny asked. The hosts speculated on Omega’s potential opponents for Revolution, with Johnny leaning toward a high-stakes clash with Will Ospreay. “Their chemistry is unmatched, and a rematch at Revolution could steal the show,” he added.
Dave, however, suggested that AEW might be holding off on Omega’s next big storyline to keep him fresh for a future title push. “If MJF retains the AEW World Championship at Revolution, Omega could be the next guy in line to challenge him,” he proposed, emphasizing the importance of long-term booking for Omega’s character.
Tag Team Turmoil
AEW’s tag team division was also a hot topic, with Dave and Johnny praising recent matches while questioning some of the creative decisions. “The tag division is stacked, but sometimes it feels like they’re just throwing matches together,” Johnny observed. Dave agreed, highlighting the need for more cohesive storytelling: “When you have teams like The Young Bucks, FTR, and Aussie Open, you’ve got the talent. Now you just need the narratives to match.”
The upcoming AEW World Tag Team Championship match between FTR and Ricky Starks & Big Bill was another focal point. “Starks and Big Bill have been a surprising pairing, but FTR should still be the favourites,” Dave predicted, noting that AEW might be setting the stage for a more significant tag feud post-Revolution.
The Elite and the Future of AEW
The conversation also touched on The Elite’s role in AEW’s overall landscape. With rumours swirling about contract negotiations and potential defections, Dave and Johnny debated the implications for the company. “If AEW loses Kenny Omega or The Young Bucks, it’s going to be a massive blow,” Dave said. “They’re foundational to what AEW represents.”
Johnny speculated that Omega’s loyalty to AEW might ultimately keep him in the fold. “Kenny seems invested in the company’s success, and I think he sees the long-term potential here,” he stated, but he didn’t rule out the possibility of a surprise move to WWE.
