What Happens to the Title?
He’s either gonna have to give it up, or I mean, I think they’re gonna have to strip him or he’s gonna have to vacate it somehow. And here’s where it gets interesting – CM Punk won a world title qualifier, right? He won in the main event of Raw to become the number one contender. The champion is out of action. So you would figure that Punk would be involved in some sort of title match, if not just awarded the championship. Who knows?
The Contenders
I could see CM Punk as the next champion. I could see Braun Breaker as the next world champion. I don’t know where Gunther is at, but I think he’s in the mix. Maybe a short run for Brock Lesnar? You know, Heyman could pull him out of a hat and be like, ‘Get Brock in here for a bit to Survivor Series and have him drop it there somehow.
I think you have a lot of options for the World Championship. I don’t think it’s as prestigious as the WWE Championship, so you can really toss it to whoever and it doesn’t really matter.
The Sami Zayn Wildcard
Here’s something interesting to note: Sami Zayn was really making a push for that world title, then he got moved over to SmackDown. He got made the US champion, then dropped the US championship tonight out of nowhere to the returning Ilya Dragunov.
Could Sami Zayn be getting ready for a run with the world title? I mean, it’s not crazy. Sami Zayn is a possibility, just as LA Knight is a possibility, just as CM Punk is a possibility. There are a lot of guys in the mix to be the next world champion.
The Punk-Lesnar Question
I believe Punk was supposed to get his title shot at Saturday Night’s Main Event on November 1st. He’s the main guy featured on the poster, so it’s gonna revolve around him in some capacity.
I think it would be kind of neat if they could bring in Brock to wrestle Punk. But if you do that, you have to put the title on Broc,k then if that happens, because you kind of replaced Seth, right? This whole story. And it’s weird to do that, I think.
But we also have War Games coming up. I think Brock would be good in that spot for War Games as a champion. I don’t know. It would get people talking. I don’t know if it’ll get people talking positively, though.
Crown Jewel: The Good and the Bad
Let me touch on Crown Jewel overall real quick. I didn’t watch it live – I was traveling to New Brunswick when the show started around 8 in the morning. But I saw bits and pieces afterwards, and it was kind of what I expected. Almost word-for-word, like what we predicted the week prior.
The one thing where I was like, ‘Oh yeah, they actually switched that one,’ was Roman Reigns and Bronson Reed. I was surprised, but kind of not surprised, because Bronson is from Australia. It makes a lot of sense that they gave him a win. Still, though, to see Roman Reigns get pinned? That’s pretty massive for Bronson Reed. Biggest win of his life. To see Roman get pinned again, like twice in one year? That’s a big thing.
But I mean, it made sense for what happened. The match was just a lot of smoke and mirrors. Just Roman playing up to the crowd and a lot of stalling. I wouldn’t have started the show with something like that, but I understand it was a street fight – where else are you gonna put that on that card?
The Main Event Delivered
The main event, though? Cody and Seth? That was a fine match. Very even. Seth pretty much destroyed himself, but still, I appreciate him doing something like that – taking a risk like that. It didn’t quite pay off the way he wanted it to, but again, I appreciate trying to do something out of the ordinary. It was kind of shocking that he would do something like that.
The Bottom Line
So here’s where we’re at: Seth Rollins is legitimately injured and will likely need surgery. The World Championship is about to be vacated or stripped. CM Punk is the leading contender, but there are multiple scenarios in play – including a potential Brock Lesnar appearance.
