UFC 306 Main Event: Sean O’Malley vs. Merab Dvalishvili

The main event showcases a bantamweight title clash between champion Sean O’Malley and challenger Merab Dvalishvili. Dave Simon believes the timing favours O’Malley, stating, “I feel like if Merab got this fight against O’Malley, maybe a year or two ago, he would have won. But here, coming up on September 14th, 2024, this version of Merab and this version of O’Malley, I feel like O’Malley has caught up enough that he will be able to get the job done.” Simon predicts an O’Malley victory by decision. AJ D’Alesio agrees with Simon, highlighting O’Malley’s striking accuracy and reach advantage. “When you look at the striking game, there’s no doubt about it. Who has the better striking accuracy? O’Malley, who’s got, like, a 72 inch, reach O’Malley 68 for, for, Merab,” D’Alesio notes. Fred Garcia, however, is backing Dvalishvili, citing his wrestling prowess and recent performances. “I’m going to go with Merab. So that’s my three-fight parlay for Team Freddie,” Garcia states.

Co-Main Event: Alexa Grasso vs. Valentina Shevchenko

The co-main event features a women’s flyweight title rematch between champion Alexa Grasso and former champ Valentina Shevchenko. AJ D’Alesio believes Shevchenko’s time at the top has passed, saying, “Valentina, like, you know, she had a split decision win against Talia Santos. It’s just she’s just her time has passed in my opinion.“Dave Simon and Fred Garcia agree with D’Alesio, predicting a Grasso victory. Simon states, “I think Grasso won the second one two. It was a draw. They said split draw. But I thought Grasso won a decision I thought she should have walked away with a win. I think she’ll get the decision win here over Valentina.

Opinions are divided in the featherweight bout between Brian Ortega and Diego Lopes. AJ D’Alesio favours Lopes, while Fred Garcia and Dave Simon believe Ortega will emerge victorious. Simon notes, “I love how Ortega came out against the idea. Rodriguez, in his last fight, looked incredible. He looked like the Brian Ortega that could be a world champion.”
