TUF Brazil: Episode 8 notes and results – Ringside Report + Wrestling Uncensored

Episode 8- May 14, 2012
Wanderlei Silva gets to select a fight for the first time this season after  Rony Jason’s victory last episode. Wanderlei addresses both teams and says he was saddened to see Rony Jason (Team Wanderlei) have to fight Gasparzinho (Team Vitor) last week because they are friends from outside the house. Vitor Belfort made the fight selection and says he did not know they were friends. Rony Jason says he went into Team Vitor’s locker room and said he did not want to fight Gasparzinho because they are friends. Vitor claims he was not in the locker room at the time but a video clip shows that he was right next to Rony Jason when he said he did not want to fight Gasparzinho. Belfort is caught in a lie. Belfort claims ignorance and Wanderlei is very upset. Wanderlei wants Belfort to admit that he does not care that they are friends and wanted to see them fight. Belfort says it was a team decision.
Wanderlei Silva announces Massaranduba (Team Wanderlei) v. Thiago Bodao (Team Vitor) for this episode’s Middleweight quarter-final. Massaranduba was picked 4th by Team Wanderlei, 7th overall in the draft. Bodao was selected 5th by Team Vitor, 10th overall.
This leaves Serginho (Team Vitor) to face Pe de Chumbo (Team Wanderlei) in the last middleweight quarter-final bout on the next episode.
Thiago Bodao has a malignant tumor in his shoulder when he was 9 years old. Doctors told his mother he would not survive. When he left the hospital the doctor told him to study because he could not do anything in life that would require physical stress. Bodao was saddened because loved sports and practice karate. He persuaded his mother to let him practice Capoeira. He then started practicing Muay Thai. Bodao says he fights for his parents, his brothers and his wife. Bodao told his wife that if he reached the semi-finals they would have a child together.
Massaranduba grew up taking care of horses and cattle on a farm. Massaranduba has three brothers and alternates living with each of them. He fights for his parents. His father has parties with his friends to watch his fights on TV. His mother supports his fighting career but does not watch his fights.
Back at the house, Gasparzinho (Team Vitor) is entertaining his team with impressions of Vitor Belfort and Wanderlei Silva. Rodrigo Damm (Team Vitor) tells the guys to be quiet because their teammate Thiago Bodao is trying to sleep. Serginho (Team Vitor) is annoyed because they are all in his room making noise.
Gasparzinho is shown running naked through the house and Pe de Chumbo says he has to spank Gasparzinho every night with his slippers because he runs around naked.
Thiago Bodao says Massaranduba is one of the “coolest guys in the house and it is impossible not to like him.”
Francisco “Massaranduba” Drinaldo (10-1, Team Wanderlei) v. Thiago “Bodao” Perpetuo (8-1, Team Vitor) TUF Brazil MW Quarter-Final
Round 1- Bodao lands a leg kick in the first 20 seconds as the fighters look for their range standing up. Massaranduba lands a left hand but eats an uppercut as Bodao charges in with a clinch. Massaranduba lands two solid left hands and a knee to the body and looks for a single-leg takedown against the fence. Massaranduba throws knees to the leg of Bodao as he continues to press Bodao against the cage and looking for a takedown. Bodao defends the takedown and reverses position, pushing Massaranduba against the fence. Massaranduba tries to pull guard but lands in a bad position and gets to his feet quickly. Massaranduba uses the transition to push Bodao into the cage and looks for a trip take-down that is defended. Bodao pushes Massaranduba against the cage and lands knees to the body. Massaranduba lands a knee to the body in the clinch but referee Mario Yamasaki separated the fighters with 30 seconds remaining in the round. Bodao pushed Massaranduba right back against the cage and they grappled for position as the round came to an end. I would score a close and lackluster Round 1 for Thiago Bodao: 10-9
Round 2- Bodao lands a leg kick but eats a big punch within the first 20 seconds of the round. Massaranduba drops Bodao with a left hand and works punches and elbows from his guard. Massaranduba lands solid elbows strikes and punches as he looked to pass the guard. Bodao pushes Massaranduba away and got to his feet. Bodao clinched his opponent against the fence and landed a punch to the face and knees to the body. Massaranduba looked for a takedown but Bodao defended and got to his feet. Bodao landed a knee to the body and pushes Massaranduba against the cage. Bodao landed a solid knee to the body and kept Massaranduba pinned to the fence. Massaranduba looked for a takedown but Bodao defended and landed on top of Massaranduba in half-guard. Bodao worked solid punches from half-guard and stayed on top as MAssaranduba looked to escape to his feet. Bodao finished the round on top landing hammer fists. I would score Round 2 for Thiago Bodao: 10-9
Massaranduba looks exhausted in his corner after the second round as they await the judges’ decision.
The judges rule the fight a draw and order a third and final round. I’m guessing they scored Round 1 for Massaranduba but I thought Bodao won both rounds.
Massaranduba looks dazed and falls to the ground when referee Mario Yamasaki asks him if he wants to continue. In a great display of sportsmanship, Thiago Bodao is urging him to get to his feet and think of his family and the opportunity that he has.
Massaranduba advises the ref that he cannot continue and loses the fight due to exhaustion forfeit.
Thiago “Bodao” Perpetuo def. Francisco “Massaranduba” Drinaldo via TKO (exhaustion) at 5:00 in Round 2 to advance to semi-finals of TUF Brazil MW tournament
