 Episode 1. January 22, 2013- For the first time in TUF history, fighters are allowed their families in the building to watch their elimination round bouts. This will be an all-middleweight (185 lbs.) season.
Jon Jones and Chael Sonnen are shown meeting and shaking hands. Dana White recounts the history between Jones and Sonnen and talks about their fight on April 27.
The fighters enter the TUF gym and are introduced to Dana White, Jon Jones and Chael Sonnen.
Adam Cella (4-0) v. Jake Heun (3-2)  
Round 1- Heun took a knee to the face but scored a takedown in the first minute of the bout. Cella locked in an arm-bar from his back. Heun tried to roll out of the hold but could not escape and was forced to submit.

Nik Fekete (5-1) v. Zak Cummings (15-3)
Round 1- Cummings dropped Fekete in the opening seconds with a heavy right hand and finished him with hammer-fists to get the stoppage.

Eldon Sproat (3-1) v. Kevin Casey (5-2)
Only highlights were shown from this bout. Jon Jones describes the fight as a dominant performance by Kevin Casey with superior grappling.

Scott Rosa (5-1) v. Tor Troeng (15-4)

Ryan Bigler (9-3) v. Robert “Bubba” McDaniel (20-6)
Only highlights are shown from this bout. After a close first round, McDaniel finishes Bigler with punches from the back-mount in the second round.

Josh Samman (9-2) v. Leo Bercier (7-2)
Round 1- Samman scores a takedown in he first 10 seconds and scores several big punches to the body. Samman improves to full-mount, Bercier gives up his back and takes big punches to the head. Samman unloads with heavy punches and elbows to force the referee stoppage.

Kito Andrews (9-2) v. Kelvin Gastelum (4-0)
Only highlights were shown from this bout. Kito Andrews was in-control in the first round but Kelvin Gastelum fought back in the second round. Chael Sonnen said it was a very close fight.

Jimmy Quinlan (3-0) v. Mike Persons (3-0)
Only highlights of this bout were shown. Jon Jones says Quinlan displayed the best wrestling that he’s seen on the show so far. Quinlan dominated the fight with effective wrestling and finished with ground and pound.

Uriah Hall (7-2) v. Andy Enz (6-1)
Only highlights were shown from this bout. Hall scored good strikes, scored takedowns and attempted submissions in a highly entertaining first round. Hall continues to impress in the second round and wins the decision.

Gilbert Smith (5-1) v. Eric Wahlin (4-2)
Round 1- Smith scores a takedown and passes into half-guard. Smith lands short elbows to Wahlin’s head and locks in a head-arm triangle to force the submission.

Nicholas Kohring (3-0) v. Luke Barnatt (5-0)
Only highlights were shown from this bout. Luke Barnatt used his 6’6 frame to control the range and dominate Kohring.

Dylan Andrews (15-4) v. Tim Williams (7-1)
Only highlights were shown from this bout. Andrews scored with a hard right hand early in the fight but Williams fought back and the fight went to a close decision.

Collin Hart (4-1) v. Mike Jasper (5-0)
Only highlights were shown from this bout. Jon Jones says it was a “pretty amazing fight,” where Collin dominated with dirty-boxing. Jones says Hart reminds him of Randy Couture.

Fourteen fighters have now advanced to the Round of 16. Two losing fighters from the Round of 16 will get a second opportunity to qualify for the quarter-finals in a Wild Card fight against each other.
Coaches Jon Jones and Chael Sonnen now draft their teams. Chael Sonnen wins the coin toss and elects to choose the first fighter in the draft. Jon Jones gets to choose the first fight match-up by default.
