11 Nov TUF 16: Episode 9 notes and results – Ringside Report + Wrestling Uncensored
Episode 9- November 10, 2012- James Chaney tells Dana White that he bit Jon Manley on purpose and is very sorry. White appreciates Chaney admitting his wrong and accepts his apology. Chaney is very upset after his loss.
Julian Lane says some things that Colton Smith does not appreciate. Smith calls him “Junie Browning” and Lane starts yelling and wants to fight him. Smith calms him down, Lane is crying again.
Dom Waters was in the Marines for 4 years and is a former high school wrestler. Waters will fight Mike Ricci on this episode.
Roy Nelson is shown coaching Waters. Nelson says the game-plan will be to stay on the outside of Ricci and make it a striking match. Waters says he wants to knock out Mike Ricci and put fear into his potential opponents in the tournament.
Mike Ricci tells Michael Hill that he is excited to see his next fight. Michael Hill says that as the two Canadians on the show they promised not to fight each other until the finals.
Mike Ricci says he got into a lot of fights growing up. Ricci learned to train from a Renzo Gracie book. Ricci met Georges St-Pierre and began training at the Tristar gym in Montreal.
Shane Carwin says Ricci may be the most technically sound fighter in the house. Carwin says Dom Waters ground-and-pound is the only thing that could be dangerous. Carwin says Ricci is a “pretty boy.” Carwin says: “he comes from Montreal, all those guys are kind of pretty boys and think highly of themselves. I love it.”
Dom Waters was selected 1st by Team Nelson, 2nd overall. Mike Ricci was selected 3rd by Team Carwin, 5th overall.
Dom Waters (4-1, Team Nelson) v. Mike Ricci (7-2, Team Carwin) TUF 16 Welterweight Tournament- Final 16
Round 1- Ricci lands a head-kick and a good leg kick that stumbles Waters. Ricci lands a straight right hand a solid kick to the body. Ricci lands another good kick to the body and defends a takedown attempt. Ricci lands a left hand to the body and continues to control the octagon and keep Waters on his heels. Waters scores with a looping left hook and clinches Ricci against the fence. Ricci lands a right hand and defends the takedown while being pushes against the cage. I would score Round 1 for Mike Ricci: 10-9
Round 2- Ricci lands a kick to the body and a solid jab but gets taken down in the first minute of the round. Ricci gets to his feet but Waters holds onto him and pins him against the cage. Waters lands knees to the thigh and scoops Ricci down to the mat. Ricci secures Waters in his guard and is able to get back to his feet but Waters holds on. Waters clinches Ricci against the fence and gets another takedown. Waters tries to take Ricci’s back but cannot keep him on the mat. Ricci gets to his feet and reverses the position, pushing Waters into the cage. Waters turns Ricci back into the cage and drags him down to the mat. Waters tries to take his back but instead scores punches as time expires. I would score Round 2 for Dom Waters: 10-9
The judges agree with my scoring and we are headed to a sudden victory round.
Round 3- Ricci lands a kick to the body and a kick to the leg in the first 30 seconds of the round. Waters shoots hard for a takedown but gets caught in a guillotine attempt. Waters slams himself out of the position and tries to pass Ricci’s half-guard. Ricci reverses the position and puts Waters on his back with a single-leg takedown. Ricci works elbows and punches from inside Waters’ guard. Ricci lands punches to the body and head and controls position to keep Waters on his back. Waters scrambles to get to his feet but Ricci keeps him down and works punches to the body and head from the guard. Both fighters look exhausted. Ricci maintains his control and lands punches but cannot do any significant damage. Ricci remains in Waters’ guard as time expires. I would score Round 3 for Mike Ricci: 10-9
Mike Ricci def. Dom Waters via unanimous decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28) to advance to TUF 16 Welterweight Tournament Quarter-Finals.
Team Carwin and Mike Ricci are very happy with the victory. Ricci says Waters was the toughest guy in the house that no one wanted to fight.
Dana White, Shane Carwin and Roy Nelson meet with each quarter-finalist individually to see whom they’d like to fight next.
Igor Araujo says he’d like to fight Jon Manley or Colton Smith
Colton Smith says he wants to fight Igor Araujo.
Bristol Marunde wants to fight Joey Rivera.
Neil Magny wants to fight Michael Hill but is ready to fight anyone.
Joey Rivera is willing to fight anyone.
Jon Manley wants to fight Mike Ricci.
Mike Ricci wants to fight Michael Hill because he does not like the way he acts in the house.
Michael Hill says he is willing to fight anyone. Hill says he does not want to fight Ricci. Roy Nelson tells him that Ricci wants to fight him. Hill says he does not want to believe that. Hill is angry with Ricci.

Ricci says he wants to fight Michael Hill because he’d already beaten the number 1 pick and he’d like to also beat the number 2 draft selection for Team Nelson.
Marunde and Magny are friendly and surprised to be fighting each other.
Bristol Marunde v. Neil Magny and Igor Araujo v. Colton Smith will both take place on Episode 10.
