TUF 15: Episode 5 notes and results

Episode 5- April 6, 2012
Michael Chiesa (7-0, Team Faber) @MikeMav22 versus Jeremy Larsen (8-2, Team Cruz) @JeremyLarsenMMA is this episode’s fight. Chiesa was Urijah Faber’s 5th pick and 10th overall while Larsen was Dominick Cruz’ 8th (last) pick and 15th overall.
Post-fight locker room celebration for Al Iaquinta’s victory on the last episode is shown. Iaquinta says it feels awesome to get Team Faber’s first win.
Sam Sicilia (Team Cruz) was Michael Chiesa’s (Team Faber) training partner before the show and Dominick Cruz is counting on him to help Jeremy Larsen train to beat Chiesa. Sicilia says he’s not willing to give away any of his friend’s secrets. Sicilia and Chiesa have a conversation in the house about Cruz’ questions about Chiesa.
Dominick Cruz asks Sicilia what Chiesa’s best submission move is. Sicilia is not willing to give away any of his friend’s secrets. Cruz explains that there is a real possibility for them to fight each other at some point and he needs to realize that.
Cruz is shown training wrestling with Jeremy Larsen to prepare him for Chiesa.
Chris Tickle says he has symptoms of gout in one of his toes and is in pain. Dominick Cruz questions Tickle on whether or not he wants to stay on the show. Tickle says he wants to stay and has no problem with Dominick’s coaching style.
Clips of Michael Chiesa training are shown. Urijah Faber says Chiesa has great takedowns and is good at controlling on top. Faber says he has long legs and is like a spider on top of you. Faber says Chiesa is going to win his fight.
Chris Tickle is shown saying his stomach hurts but Dominick Cruz won’t let him stop practicing. Tickle claims he’s going to soil himself. Cruz says: “If you shit all over yourself, that’s your problem.” Tickle is shown getting beat up, then hits the bathroom. Cruz says Tickle could win the show but is holding himself back.
Dominick Cruz says he and Jeremy Larsen were childhood friends and lost touch but have been brought back together through MMA. Larsen said he was a street fighter before entering MMA because he had to fight all the time in his neighborhood. Larsen says he is not going to touch gloves because “I don’t do that.” Team Cruz assistant-coach Ross Pearson says Larsen is a dark horse to win the competition.
Chris Tickle goes to the hospital and is told he does not have gout.
Sam Sicilia says that a fight versus Michael Chiesa in the finals would be “best-case scenario,” for him because they are such good friends.
Michael Chiesa (7-0, Team Faber) @MikeMav22 versus Jeremy Larsen (8-2, Team Cruz) @JeremyLarsenMMA (155 lbs.- lightweight)
Round 1- Chiesa pushes Larsen against the cage and shoots for a takedown and after a struggle is able to slam Larsen to the mat. Chiesa controls the action in Larsen’s half-guard and scores some solid elbows. Chiesa looks to pass and lands more elbows to Larsen’s head. Larsen pushes Chiesa off and gets back to his feet. Larsen clinches Chiesa against the fence but Chiesa lands some knees. Chiesa shoots in for a single-leg takedown and transitions into a big double-leg slam. Larsen keeps Chiesa in his guard but takes some punches and gets lifted and slammed back down. Chiesa looks for a guillotine choke and Larsen scrambles back to his feet. Chiesa lands a knee to Larsen’s face as Larsen is on one knee and the referee momentarily stops the action to warn Chiesa and check on Larsen after the illegal blow. Referee Steve Mazzagatti deducts one point from Chiesa for the illegal strike. The action resumes and Chiesa lands a jab. Larsen pushes Chiesa against the fence and looks for a takedown but the horn sounds to end the round. I would score Round 1 a draw 9-9. It would have been 10-9 for Chiesa had he not been deducted a point.
Round 2- Chiesa lands a jab but gets hit with a counter right-hand. Chiesa charges in for a takedown and pushes Larsen against the fence. Chiesa is only momentarily able to get Larsen to the mat. Larsen pushes Chiesa against the fence but gets reversed and hit with a knee in the body. Larsen escapes the clinch and lands a right hand. Larsen lands a right hook that looks to faze Chiesa but Chiesa lands another takedown. Chiesa looks for a guillotine choke but Larsen escapes and momentarily gets to his feet before getting taken down again. Larsen gets to his feet again and lands a straight right hand but Chiesa charges him into the fence and fights for a takedown. Chiesa eventually takes his back and works him down to the mat and tries to sink in a rear-naked choke. Chiesa is unable to secure the hold as time expires. I would score Round 2 for Michael Chiesa: 10-9
