TUF 15: Episode 1 notes and results – Ringside Report + Wrestling Uncensored

Episode 1- March 9, 2012

Dana White introduces Urijah Faber and Dominick Cruz as the coaches to the 32 lightweight fighters. White says 16 fights will take place for the men to enter the house. The fights will be one round of five minutes. If anyone gets a stoppage in their one round fight, they will get a $5,000 bonus.
Joe Proctor (7-1) v. Jordan Rinaldi (5-0)
Rinaldi socres with a left hook that cuts Proctor in the opening minute. Proctor lands a solid uppercut and gets a takedown. Proctor secures a guillotine from the mount position and forces Rinaldi to submit.

Cristiano Marcello (12-3) v. Jared Carlsten (3-0)
Carlsten lands a solid body kick and knees in the opening 30 seconds. Marcello scores a takedown and quickly gets to full-mount. Marcello scores punches as Carlsten struggles to escape the bad position. Carlsten rolls to his stomach, Marcello flattens him out and secures the rear-naked choke for the submission win.

Erin Beach (3-1) v. Sam Sicilia (10-0)
Sicilia scores a straight right hand in his first punch that knocks out Beach. Referee Josh Rosenthal intervenes to stop the fight before Sicilia could land another punch.

Austin Lyons (9-1) v. Chris Tickle (7-4)
Lyons and Tickle exchange punches to the face but a big right hook drops Lyons. Referee Steve Mazzagatti intervenes and the fight ends with another quick KO.

Brendan Weafer (6-3) v. Andy Ogle (8-1)
Ogle scores an early takedown but Weafer stops him from passing the guard. Weafer works for a triangle choke but takes punches from that position. Weafer keeps a triangle position and lands some elbows but is unable to get his leg low enough on Ogle’s neck to secure a choke. For some reason, Josh Rosenthal stands the fighters up with 20 seconds remaining. Weafer throws a kick that puts him off-balance and causes a slip. Ogle jumps into a guillotine choke attempt and holds him in a guillotine position from guard as time expires.

Vinc Pichel (7-0) v. Cody Pfister (7-3)
Pichel lands a straight right hand that wobbles his opponent. Pfister lands a takedown. Pichel looks for an arm-bar or triangle from the guard position. Pichel attempts an omoplata and uses it to sweep Pfister to his back. The two fighters scramble and Pichel winds up in side-control. Pfister gets to his feet but eats a knee on the way up. Pfister lands another takedown but Pichel gets to his feet. Pfister holds on to his opponent and tries to take his back from the standing position. Pfister sinks hooks in and jumps on his back but Pichel drops him to the mat and lands in his guard. Pichel lands a huge elbow that cuts Pfister severely. Pfister scrambles but Pichel holds on and sinks in a rear-naked choke that puts Pfister to sleep.

Mark Glover (5-1-1) v. John Cofer (7-1)
Glover lands leg kicks but Cofer scores with a solid punch and some knees to the body in a clinch. Cofer pushes Glover against the fence but Glover pushes away. Cofer score a single-leg takedown but Glover gets back up only to get slammed back down. Cofer works some punches from Glover’s guard. Glover gets back to his feet and lands a jumping knee to the body of Cofer. Glover and Cofer exchange some punches to face. Glover attempts a guillotine choke and pulls Cofer down into his guard. Cofer escapes the hold but Glover gets back to his feet. Glover lands a solid punch but gets taken down again. Cofer holds on to Glover as time expires.

Chase Hackett (4-1) v. Chris Saunders (9-2)
Hackett lands a head kick that puts Saunders on his back. Hackett attempts to finish the fight with some punches but falls into a guillotine choke attempt. Saunders pulls Hackett into his guard and tries to squeeze out a guillotine choke but Hackett holds on a pops his head out of the hold. Hackett tries to land some punches from within guard but Saunders gets back to his feet. Hackett scores a takedown but Saunders gets to his feet. Hackett lands a good over-hand right hand and several other punches but a visibly tired Saunders clinches up to slow down the pace. Saunders lands some solid punches but Hackett responds and attempts a takedown. Saunders looks for another guillotine choke but Hackett escapes as time expires.

James Vick (4-0) v. Dakota Cochrane (11-2)
Cochrane lands a push-kick and looks for a takedown but is stuffed. Cochrane hands on to Vick and continues to look for the takedown but Vick continues to defend. Vick looks for a guillotine choke but Cochrane escapes and the fighters clinch against the fence. Vick lands a trip and two punches but Cochrane gets back to his feet and they continue to clinch against the cage. The referee breaks up the fighters and Cochrane lands a good punch but Vick looks for a guillotine. Cochrane escapes and finishes the fight in Vick’s guard. Dana White, Urijah Faber and Dominick Cruz are doing commentary cage-side and all agree the fight is a draw and should go another round.

Jonathan Vistante (4-1) v. Michael Chiesa (7-0)
Chiesa scores a quick takedown and lands some elbows from Vistante’s guard. Chiesa passes and takes Vistante’s back and lands more punches from the back-mount. After softening Vistante with some punches, Chiesa sinks in the rear-naked choke to force the tap-out.

Mike Rio (8-1) v. Ali Maclean (9-5-1)
Rio and Maclean exchange punches to the face. Maclean lands solid punches but also gets his nose bloodied. Rio scores a takedown and lands punches from half-guard. Rio passes and takes Maclean’s back. Rio sinks his hooks in and lands punches on a bloodied Maclean. Rio hangs onto Maclean and as he tries to escape the position and locks in a rear-naked choke.

James Krause (14-4) v. Justin Lawrence (3-0)
Lawrence lands some good kicks and punches in the first minute of the fight. Lawrence scores a takedown and throws a barrage of fists on his opponent. Krause gets up but gets hit with a flurry of strikes including a huge left hand that knocked him out cold.

Drew Dober (8-3) v. Daron Cruickshank (10-2)
Cruickshank lands a solid kick to the body and defends a takedown in the first minute of the fight. Cruickshank lands solid punches and a huge head-kick that rocks Dober. Cruickshank attacks with a takedown and improves to the full-mount. Dober punches him back into guard but Cruickshank lands solid elbows from that position. Dober fights to get back to his feet but eats more punches on the way back up. Dober looks to land a takedown but Cruickshank defends and the fighters clinch against the fence. Dober lands some solid punches as the fighters separate but clinches again. Dober hits Cruickshank with a knee below the belt and time is called. Cruickshank lands a takedown when the fight resumes but Dober gets to his feet and they clinch against the fence as time elapses.

Jeremy Larsen (8-2) v. Jeff Smith (9-1)
Smith lands a punch that cuts Larsen and a takedown in the first 30 seconds. Larsen gets to his feet and scores a takedown. Smith sweeps Larsen and gets back to his feet but Larsen score another takedown. Smith tries rolling into a knee-bar and almost locks it in but Larsen escapes and winds up in side-control. Larsen lands some elbows to the face and body on top of Smith, keeping him down in side-control. Smith looks for another knee-bar but Smith stays away from danger and stays in top position as the fight comes to an end.

Jon Tuck (6-0) Al Iaquinta (5-1-1)
Tuck lands a body kick but gets caught and tripped by Iaquinta. Tuck lands an up-kick and Iaquinta drops down into Tuck’s guard. Tuck looks for an arm-bar but Iaquinta powers out. Tuck scrambles and takes Iaquinta’s back. Iaquinta stands up and is able to push Tuck back. Iaquinta lands some solid punches and a good inside leg-kick as the fighters exchange on the feet. Tuck realizes he has broken one of his toes but continues to kick with that foot. Iaquinta scores a takedown and works some good hammer-fists as time expires.

Akbarh Arreola (19-6-1) v. Myles Jury (9-0)
Jury scores a quick takedown and Akbarh attempts a guillotine choke but is unable to secure the hold. Jury lands good body punches and elbows to the head from inside Arreola’s guard. After some inactivity the referee stands the fighters up. Arreola lands a kick but gets taken down again and Jury works his ground-and-pound from inside the guard. Referee Steve Mazzagatti calls for another stand-up but Arreola again throws a kick and gets taken down. Jury continues to work punches and elbows from inside the guard as time runs out.

Dana White welcomes the fighters to The Ultimate Fighter and tells them to get ready for the “hardest 13 weeks,” of their lives. Urijah Faber and Dominick Cruz teams will be revealed on the next episode and a fight will take place.
