From his rise to fame acting like a rapper to becoming the most hated figurehead in all of sports entertainment, John Cena’s WWE life is extensively relived in DK Publishing’s, Hustle, Loyalty, Respect: The World of John Cena.
270 pages filled with Cena’s greatest WWE moments, matches, feuds, tag partners, and still a whole heck of a lot more on Cena’s run up to when he defeated Seth Rollins for his final reign as WWE United States Champion. Starting as The Prototype in WWE’s development system, Cena changed his look and name when WWE overlord Vince McMahon Jr. demanded Cena cut his hair. Cena debuted strong against Kurt Angle, but could not build any sustainable momentum as a star.
Until he became the Doctor of Thuganomics.
With a new personality and attitude, Cena quickly rose to the top of the WWE ranks and won the WWE Championship. He slowly dropped the attitude and rapping completely, but remained on top for years to come. Majority of fans started booing Cena every show, although WWE commentary and writer Steve Pantaleo defend Cena as a great entertainer to the death. The Rock returning gave fans someone who could put down Cena on the mike and in the ring. Rock was too good though because particular moments have been erased from WWE history, such as Rock’s comments about Cena’s ex-wife.
Unfortunately, The Rock went back to Hollywood. Cena turned his focus on defeating the new WWE potential stars in Bray Wyatt, Rusev, and Kevin Owens. While injured a good chunk per year recently, Cena is still perceived as the man in WWE.
If you did not know a certain part of Cena’s WWE TV reign, you can find it as nearly anything Cena did on RAW, Smackdown and pay-per-view is covered. As always the photography is top notch and nostalgic with the evolution of John Cena section. Disappointing Cena’s personal life or comments from him are limited. No mention that he was married once and it is hard to find the slight mention of his current relationship with WWE Superstar Nikki Bella. Nothing is written on his past relationships with WWE’s Victoria or Mickie James.
