Since returning to the sport of MMA in 2010 after semi retirement, “The Pride of El Salvador” Ivan Menjivar, an international journeyman, who made a name for himself in Canada, Japan, and the United States in multiple weight classes, steps back into the octagon to continue his undefeated streak in the UFC since returning to the company. Menjivar made his UFC debut back 2004 at Lightweight in a losing effort to Matt Serra. No stranger to tough competition, Menjivar has notable victories over Joe Lauzon, and Hideo Tokoro and tough losses to Urijah Faber,Caol Uno and Bart Palaszewski. Upon his return to action, he picked up a quick victory over Aaron Miller at W-1, which caught the attention of the WEC. Menjivar made his WEC debut in a losing effort against Bard Pickett via decision. With the merger of the WEC and UFC, Menjivar joined the promotion with two victories, one over Charlie Valenica via TKO at UFC 129 and unanimous decision over Nick Pace at UFC 133. Next Wednesday night Menjivar takes on TUF 14 Alumni John Albert (7-1) who had an extremely impressive showing at the TUF 14: Finale when he took out Dustin Prague via TKO in 69 seconds. Here Menjivar’s thoughts on his bout tonight.

Dave & Kevin will also be discussing all of the results of UFC 143, but in depth at the controversial decision for the Interim Welterweight champion between Carlos Condit and Nick Diaz, Diaz’s retirement and much more in 2 hours of MMAgic.

After a 7-year hiatus from the UFC when he fought Matt Serra at lightweight, Pat Curran has been somewhat of a journeyman jumping from local promotion to local promotion, dropping down into various weight classes, all the while building his record. The UFC, STRIKEFORCE, Bellator, WEC, PRIDE, KOTC, XFO, and IFL veteran miay be best known for his losing efforts against Urijah Faber, Mike Brown, Joseph Benevidez, and Takeya Mizugaki, but has been of a two fight win streak and returns to the UFC on October 29th at UFC 137 in Las Vegas, Nevada against Scott Jorgenson.

The first ever UFC Lightweight champion Jens “Lil Evil” Pulver is one of the only two men at lightweight to defeat BJ Penn. Coach of the Ultimate Fighter Season 5 along side Penn, and with notable victories over Dennis Hallman, Cub Swanson, Caol Uno, and Cole Escuvedo; Pulver is one of the most recognizable names in MMA history. A huge fan a PC gaming Pulver is featured for the first time ever in the new MMA Supremacy. MMA Supremacy differs from other MMA games, as it is simple and arcade style.

Beating an average athlete on your back in a fight is hard enough, but defeating many world class champions in several different forms of fighting made Royce Gracie a legend.

The Ultimate Fighting Championship has decided to pay homage to the champion of their first ever tournament events with the release of a two-disc Ultimate Royce Gracie DVD set. Unlike current UFC shows, Gracie had to fight four times instead of just once. There were no weight classes or rules beyond no biting. Gracie was barely 170 lbs while a lot of his opponents were well over 200 and did not mind using punches to the groin to win.

Regardless of different styles and size, Gracie showed why the Gracie’s style of Brazilian jiu-jitsu can beat any man due to leverage and technique. Gracie dominated his opponents and won UFC 1 and 2 in extremely quick bouts. Gracie spent less than 10 minutes in the octagon to win the first championship.

Following his first tourney win, fighters started to realize they need to figure out a way to defend against this ground attack. Matt Serra, Lyoto Machida and Georges St-Pierre are just a few UFC veterans that express their appreciation and respect for how Gracie helped evolved mixed martial arts into what it has become today.

The documentary on disc one, which aired before on Spike TV, is an intriguing look at all of Gracie’s UFC encounters with many of the fights given in-depth analyst from Gracie and some of his opponents. Dan Severn’s belief that he thought Gracie wanted to quit at UFC 4 and Gracie laughs back, “That never crossed my mind,” gives the viewer a battle of opinions when it comes to UFC history. Unfortunately, the same cannot be said for Gracie’s bouts with Ken Shamrock as it is only Gracie and the former UFC founder Art Davie giving their belief that Shamrock was cocky and lived with that loss on his face ever since.

Gracie touches on some of his controversial issues; the impression that the Gracies are being too arrogant to everyone else in MMA and why Gracie deciding to forfeit his 90-minute marathon fight against Kazushi Sakuraba. However, there is no mention of Gracie testing positive for steroids following the Sakuraba rematch. While there is his rematch with Hidehiko Yoshida where Gracie tells Yoshida to “f**k off,” there is no details giving on why he is saying that except for the announcers stating the first fight was a disputed finish.

The first and second disc both contain Gracie’s full fights starting from UFC 1, to a few of his battles in Pride, and ending with his battle with Matt Hughes at UFC: 60. You will get to see the full 90-minute bout Gracie had against Sakuraba and Gracie’s first fight that night as well. Included in the bonus materials is Gracie’s induction into the UFC Hall of Fame.

For fans that have not seen the documentary it is a highly educational and action-packed ride through the life of the most popular Gracie in North America. Royce Gracie may not have been the best MMA specialist in his family, but the Gracies were able to show that no matter your size, power can always be defeated with proper training and preparation.

The return and fall of Brock Lesnar as Ultimate Fighting Championship’s Heavyweight Champion, the near defeat of Anderson Silva against Chael Sonnen, and another dominate year of Georges St-Pierre were just a few amazing UFC highlights of 2010.

UFC: Best of 2010 presents a documentary style look at 2010 through the weight classes, standout fighters, and memorable UFC headlines. The merger of the sister company World Elite CageFighting, aka WEC, the arrival of UFC pay-per-view events to new markets and the acceptance of mixed martial arts in new areas like Toronto, you get a clear picture that the UFC is growing and will continue their rise as a mainstream sports company.

B.J. Penn’s inability to solve Frankie Edgar and the questions circulating around Penn’s training regime are given a positive spin thanks to Penn’s jump back to welterweight and quick knockout win of UFC Hall-of-Famer Matt Hughes. Hughes is also given the spotlight due to the number of achievements in his career, records that are still not broken, and for his ability to still compete after a long UFC career.

Included in the 2010 year in review for the DVD edition is 13 full fights along with 10 full bonus fights. The difference in the blu-ray edition is that it has 38 full fights in total. GSP fans will want to see the blu-ray edition if they missed out on getting the UFC 124 DVD as GSP VS. Koscheck 2 is not featured on the DVD. Kimbo Slice fans also only get a chance to see the popular heavyweight on blu-ray. Both editions have Chuck Liddell’s final MMA bout against Rich Franklin.

2010 was one of the best years for UFC making their Best of 2010 DVD or blu-ray a great collector’s item. Also a great watch for fans that cannot get enough UFC and easily the best buy for fans that are new to the sport or missed out on a few UFC events. The best now, soon to be, and will be for years to come are well represented in this huge 2-disc set.

From UFC: 97 in Montreal to UFC: 113 in Montreal, the most stunning and brutal KOs from 2009 to 2010 are highlighted. Chuck Liddell’s fight against Shogun Rua is one of the rare fights that is shown from start until Rua breaks through Liddell’s defence.

The majority of the fight recaps usually end with an explosive knockout, like Lyoto Machida’s KO on Rashad Evans at UFC: 98 to capture the UFC Lightheavyweight Championship belt. The buckling of Evans’ knees and the rolling back of his eyes made it clear to everyone that Machida just knocked out Evans right on his feet. Fights also usually end after a big hook or a sudden trip followed by nasty ground and pound action. Vitor Belfort versus Rich Franklin is one of the rare times that a fighter decided not to pound away because they knew their opponent was out cold already. However, in the Mir against Shane Carwin fight, Carwin was beating down on a limp Mir and looked up at the ref who did not try to stop it until after a couple more bombs nailed Mir in the back of his head.

The Marcus Davis against Ben Saunders fight is one of the few fights that ended thanks to a knee shot. Easily one of the bloodiest KOs on the DVD as Davis took more than one shot to fall to the ground and looked like he was a lifeless body. Included in the DVD extras is a near seven-minute montage for Ultimate TKOs in the UFC during that period of time. Watching Kimbo Slice taking his final beating in the UFC are among the highlights in the short featurette.

Fans of sudden finishes and do not necessarily enjoy watching long fights get to enjoy a part of mixed martial arts that not only pleases boxing fans, but fight fans as well. Two gladiators battling and when they are both evenly matched, to see a KO scored is truly an amazing sight to behold. Some fight endings might seem questionable, but make no mistake you see a fighter get rocked in every fight.

Controversy reigned supreme at Ultimate Fighting Championship’s UFC 119 pay-per-view event, and now all the drama and shocking outcomes are available in an ultimate two-disc edition along with five hours of exciting bonus footage.

UFC 119 was headlined by the dream mixed martial arts match-up of Frank Mir versus Mirko Cro Cop. These two heavyweights have been considered two of the best fighters in this modern era and with Cro Cop finally coming to the UFC in 2007, the chance to see these two former champions collide was one of great intrigue.

In 2010, the hype for the showdown died a bit—Mir had suffered some major losses and Cro Crop scored victories that were deemed unimpressive compared to his Pride days. Regardless, at the UFC PPV both men just fought on their feet the majority of the fight. Odd considering how both have great ground games. Also odd was Cro Crop barely hitting any of his kicks—his kicks use to knockout opponents—against Mir his kick looked weak. Not only did they stay on their feet most of the fight, but most of the fight featured barely any action and the action you did see was strikes that did not have much power or effort behind them.

Near the end of the fight, with both fighters grappling up next to the cage, you can clearly tell the two are talking to each other and it looks like they are even laughing to each other. When Joe Rogan, a pro-everything-about-UFC commentator is complaining about how boring the fight is, many questions can be raised on if the fighters were truly prepared for this fight. Mir states in the post-fight footage that he was disappointed with his performance.

Lightweights Sean Sherk and Evan Dunham had arguably the best fight at UFC 119, but the ending to the fight is a highly debatable issue; some can say Sherk’s bloody elbow strike and cage control was enough to win the fight, others might see Dunham’s takedowns and near submission victories as more than enough to win it. Watch it and decide for yourself.

UFC 119 also features a beat-down on Matt Serra by Chris Lytle. Fans that could not stand Serra for his war with Georges St-Pierre, will definitely find comfort in Lytle beating down Serra for all three rounds. In the bonus footage showing how Serra got ready for the fight, Serra shows the poster from his first fight with GSP. “There was a rumour about us having a second fight, I don’t know what he’s talking about,” he says. Serra comes across as a caring parent when playing with his daughter and as he receives news of his second daughter on the way. Antonio Rogerio Nogueira against Ryan Bader starts off well for Little Nog, but Bader showed his ability to ride Little Nog to the point that he weared him down, almost scoring a TKO more than once.

The extras on this DVD are great reasons why UFC DVDs are worth buying. Day in the life of Serra, Lytle and Mike Goldberg all help give a unique look at them as they prepare days before fight day. Goldberg going through his production meeting and talking about his relationship on-screen and off with Rogan, shows you how much work the play-by-play position requires. The Matt Hughes commentary on the Serra-Lytle fight and the fighters’ technique demonstrations are neat insights that give you genuine perspectives on MMA.

1600 minutes of bloody wars, sudden knockouts, and some of the most historic fights in the Ultimate Fighting Championship are a few of many reasons why the UFC: The Ultimate 100 Greatest Fights is a must buy.

Voted by mixed martial arts fans online last year, this re-package box set is now in 1.78:1 aspect ratio on DVD and is also available on Blu-ray. Unlike the highlights of fights that aired on Spike TV, this box set gives you the complete fights.

From UFC 1 to UFC 98, there is a wide variety in fighting styles and how UFC has evolved from their days of No Holds Barred fighting. Legendary UFC fighters like Chuck Liddell, Royce Gracie, Tank Abbott along with current stars Brock Lesnar, Georges St-Pierre, BJ Penn and Randy Couture are just a few of the fighters featured. Liddell, Matt Hughes, Matt Serra, GSP, Rich Franklin, are featured more than most fighters due to their well-known rivalries and memorable moments inside the octagon.

From Serra’s explosive KO on GSP, to GSP evolving his game and outclassing great warriors like Penn, Serra and Hughes, the history of not only the UFC unfolds, but a lot of their stars as well. Liddell’s dominance inside the cage, delivering phenomenal KOs and gruelling fights, is followed by the slow decline in his career as he became much easier to KO. Penn’s amazing encounters against Serra, Caol Uno, Carl Stevenson and others, is followed by Penn being described as being lazy when it comes to his fights later on in the set.

Due to the selective bouts that fans could vote for, there can be many debates questioning if this is truly the 100 greatest fights in the UFC and debates on the exact order. Regardless, there are so many different types of fights; some are quick, some are long brutal blood pouring marathons, and some are methodical chess games that sometimes end fast or go the distance. You may not get every great fight, but there’s no other collection that comes close to giving you your money’s worth.
