WWE 12 game review

WWE 12WWE 12WWE12

WWE 12 delivers with perhaps the best wrestling game ever made. The roster is extensive and the match customization and create modes are excellent. The game-play is far more realistic than any other WWE game and the cinematic cameras make the game look like you’re watching WWE television.

The Road to Wrestlemania story mode has you play as three different Superstars, Sheamus, Triple H and finally a created character named Jacob Cass. The story lines are interesting in the Road to Wrestlemania mode and the cut-scenes provide for some entertainment. The Road to Wrestlemania mode will help you unlock some Superstars as you progress through the stories of each character. The WCW invasion story line is particularly fun to play through and provides for a few un-lockable characters and the Monday Nitro arena. The WWE Universe mode has pre-made Raw, Smackdown and pay-per-view matches for you to play through and also contains some un-lockable content.

The matches are all customizable in exhibition mode and stipulations can be added to make for a more interesting game-play. For instance, a match can be made 2 out of 3 falls in virtually any setting. So you can have a triple threat, 2 out of 3 falls match in a Hell in a Cell, which is pretty cool too. Ladder matches, Elimination Chamber, Extreme Rules matches and others that were in previous games are also available to play.

The game-play itself is similar to the other THQ-WWE games but is more realistic. The wrestlers don’t stay down for a long time like they did in previous games making matches more even-paced. The roster is vast with newer Superstars like Sin Cara, Alberto Del Rio and Daniel Bryan along with legends that are available to unlock like Kevin Nash, Vader and Demolition.

The Road to Wrestlemania modes and WWE Universe will keep you occupied for hours and the exhibition matches are lots of fun to play with friends. This game is a must-get for any wrestling fan.

WWE: The Very Best of WCW: Monday Night Nitro DVD review

Send to Kindle

WCW: Monday Night Nitro was the greatest threat to WWE in the 90′s and one of the reasons why millions in North America watched a male soap opera every Monday night.

Nearly a decade after the demish of World Championship Wrestling, WWE has released a special 3-disc DVD set entitled The Very Best of WCW: Monday Night Nitro. Best is used in terms of memorable moments; Hulk Hogan beating Kevin Nash with a finger point, Eric Bischoff and Vince Russo taking all the titles away, and the formation of the New World Order.

Although Chris Benoit has been eliminated from WWE history, Benoit is shown many times due to his involvement with the Four Horsemen and the many NWO run-ins. WWE pays a lot more time and effort towards talent they acquired such as Rey Mysterio, Chris Jericho and Big Show who was known as The Giant, instead of WCW only stars. DDP, who is a refreshing host for a WWE DVD set, is also featured in a positive light. Special attention is given to WCW mega stars Sting, Lex Luger, Goldberg and Kevin Nash, due to their strong efforts in making WCW a worthy competitor for WWE.

Due to the success and expansion of the NWO angle, most of the Nitro set is focused on the impact NWO had. While cruiserweight matches and special matches like Steven Regal against Fit Finlay in a parking lot brawl are unique and exciting to watch, everything that happens in WCW from mid 96 to 2000 revolved around the NWO. Sad to see that WWE did not give much attention to Raven and his flock or the WCW Hardcore division. Scott Steiner, the last WCW Champion up to the last Nitro is also not given much air-time or matches.

For the most part, one can relive the highs and lows of WCW in these three discs. While not complete, WWE did highlight a considerable amount of WCW history and gives fans who never knew what Nitro was a great appreciation for what WCW accomplished. It’s a shame that WWE highlighted their stars ahead of WCW talent, but when you win the war you get to write the book.

River of Darkness starring Kurt Angle DVD review

Send to Kindle

Gory death scenes, cheap porno quality filming, unintentional funny acting scenes, and the star power of professional wrestlers all help in creating a fun watch in the low-budget horror River of Darkness.

Olympic gold medallist and current Total Nonstop Action Wrestling superstar Kurt Angle (Endgame) stars as Sheriff Logan, an authority figure baffled by a number of increasing murders occurring around the local town’s river. Logan is met with cryptic messages at almost every turn and criticism from the townsfolk. His rival (the wrestler former known as Glacier in World Championship Wrestling) keeps putting down his abilities to the other townspeople as the murder number rises.

Kevin Nash (The Longest Yard) and ‘Psycho Sid’ Eudy star as two of the three Jacob brothers that have returned from the dead to get their revenge on the town that destroyed their lives. With machetes, axes and their impressive undead strength they leave their victims bloody and gutted. Surprisingly, they even attack a little girl in the movie.

Although Logan is not a highly religious person and believes more in scientific facts, he is slowly turned once a few survivors and old people start telling him that the Jacob boys have risen from the dead. To keep the murders rising and to add another twist to the story, a group of teenagers start looking for ghosts around the same river. Trying to save the remaining teens, Logan finally goes toe-to-toe with the Jacobs.

Cheesy is a great word to describe a lot of this movie, but for fans of cheap horror flicks and love the idea of watching wrestlers they know in this type of genre, this movie delivers in every way possible. Angle is always the tough guy who does not let anything get in his way. Even when a screaming mom falls down in front of him in hysterical fashion after her daughter’s death, Angle is still a hardnose cop.

Nash and Sid as zombies pretty much stare and Nash gives the only zombie line saying, ”I’m already dead.” Both are good at delivering their evil glares, but Nash’s voice was completely normal for an undead. Glacier is a decent antagonist to Angle, but not much is given on their back story expect that they both competed for the sheriff position. The story ends up bizarre like most Friday the 13th endings, but Angle’s movie career will continue as he scheduled to star in another movie by North Shore Pictures in the near future.
