Weekend in Fights! December 15th Edition

This Weekend in Fights! (December 15th, 2012) featured two nights of UFC action, with UFC on FX 6 in Australia and The Ultimate Fighter 16 Finale in Las Vegas. Also featured this weekend was Bellator 84 in Indiana, Legacy FC 16 in Texas, Jewels – 22nd Ring in Japan, and Flawless Fighting Championship 2 in Chicago.

Friday night featured a triple header of major MMA cards, with UFC on FX 6, Bellator 84, and Legacy FC 16. UFC on FX 6 took place at the Gold Coast Convention and Exhibition Centre in Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia. Th event was the culmination of the TUF: Smashes reality show with the winner of both the Lightweight and Welterweight tournaments crowned, as well as the coaches squaring off. Team U.K. coach Ross Pearson knocked out Team Australia coach George Sotiropoulos with a stiff jab in the third round. Pearson controlled the bout for the majority of the bout with his stand up and takedown defense. Sotiropoulos was on wobbly legs early in the first after a punch from Pearson was was able to recover and last until he was dropped in the third.

The lone Australian remaining Robert Whittaker picked Team U.K.’s Brad Scott apart with his superior standup skills to get the unanimous decision victory, and win the “TUF: Smashes” Welterweight-tournament.

Northern Ireland’s Norman Parke used a grappling based attack to out point Colin Fletcher and win “TUF: Smashes” Lightweight-tournament. Parke kept Fletcher on the ground and relentlessly kept him there with strikes and submission attempts. The game plan was perfect, as it stifled Fletcher’s stand up.

After a disappointing UFC debut Hector Lombard return to the win column with a first round TKO victory over Rousimar Palhares. With Hacran Diaz pulling out of the bout a week ago, Chad Mendes met Yaotzin Meza in a lopsided Featherweight bout. Mendes disposed of Meza via knockout in the first round with a big overhand right that sent Meza tumbling to the mat. The crowning of a new Bellator Heavyweight champion took place at Bellator 84 at The Venue at Horseshoe Casino in Hammond, Indiana. It took five rounds to settle it, with Alexander Volkov defeated Richard Hale four rounds to one to pick up the unanimous decision victory, $100,000, and the title.

As she did earlier this year, Felice Herrig defeated Patricia Vidonic by unanimous decision, winning all three rounds 10-9 on each of the judges score cards.

The Lightweight tournament final between Dave Jansen and Marcin Held did not talk place, cause the bout was cancelled due to 20-year-old Held being “too young” to fight according to Indiana State Commission. (Full Bellator 84 event results below.)

Legacy FC 16 took place at the Allen Event Center in Allen, Texas, live on AXS TV. The main event featured UFC veteran Will Campuzano versus Jimmy Flick for the inaugural Legacy FC Flyweight title. Flick used his wrestling throughout the first round to keep Campuzano on his back. In the second round Campuzano landed a huge knee followed with some punches to end the bout in the first minute. With the victory Campuzano captured the title, and snapped his four bout losing skid in the UFC and WEC. In one of four first round finishes on the main card, Ryan Benoit handed UFC veteran Joseph Sandoval his fourth consecutive loss with a right hand that ended the Bantamweight clash in 62-seconds. Saturday night held three events including Flawless Fighting Championship, Jewels, but none more important than The Ultimate Fighter Season 16 Finale. The TUF 16 finale took place at The Joint at Hard Rock Hotel and Casino. The main event featured coach, and winner of season 10 of the Ultimate Fighter Roy Nelson versus replacement fighter Matt Mitrione; who replaced coach Shane Carwin, after he was forced to withdraw from the scheduled bout. Mitrione’s reach advantage didn’t stop Nelson from dictating the pace of the fight and pushing him around. Nelson dropped Mitrione in the first round with a “hook uppercut” followed by a few more strikes as he was turtling up.

In the finals of TUF 16 tournament Colton Smith squared off against NDG’s own Mike Ricci. It would be Smith’s great wrestling ability and submission attempts that won him the bout and the tournament. Ricci was smothered from beginning to end, and had no answer for the bout. Ricci at times looked demoralized and he could do nothing to stop Smiths assault.

Also impressive on the card, Pat Barry knocked out Shane Del Rosario 26-seconds into the second round. Mike Pyle knocked out James Head in the first round in a slugfest. More impressive than anything was the debuting Rustam Khabilov who delivered three German-suplexes to knockout Vinc Pichel. (Full The Ultimate Fighter Season 16 Finale event results below.)

Jewels – “22nd Ring” took place in a cage not a ring, at the Differ Ariake in Tokyo, Japan. Jewels Lightweight Queen champion Ayaka Hamasaki defended her championship against Emi “Kamikaze Angel” Fujino in the main event. Hamasaki won a unanimous decision in a special rules bout. With the victory Hamasaki keeps her perfect 9-0 record in tacked.

Two retirements occurred on the card, as Rina Tomita hung up the gloves after a first round submission loss to Mika Nagano, and Naoko Omuro partook in an exhibition match, where she submitted Hisae Watanabe with an armbar.

STRIKEFORCE veteran Roxanne Modafferi was originally schedule to appear on the card, but pulled out of her bout with Shizuka Sugiyama. (Full JEWELS – 22md Ring event results below.)

Flawless Fighting Championship 2 emanated from Chicago, Illinois. Featured on the card was TUF alumni Chris Tickle versus Bellator, DREAM, and WEC journeyman Chase Beebe. After being cut from the UFC with a loss to Daron Cruickshank at the TUF 15 finale, Tickle went on to pick up a win in August, but he was no match for the veteran of 32 bouts. Beebe would get the judges nod after three rounds improving his win streak to six.

Also on the card STRIKEFORCE veteran Lucas Lopes picked up a kneebar submission victory over Petras Markenvicius, and UFC and Bellator veteran Shamar Bailey defeated UFC and Wreck MMA veteran Gideon Ray by unanimous decision. (Full Flawless Fighting Championship 2 – Hated event results below.)

Dave and Kevin previewed and gave their predicitions for every bout on The Ultimate Fighter 16 finale card including TUF final between Mike Ricci and Colton Smith and the main event of Roy Nelson v. Matt Mitrione.

Weekend in Fights June 2nd Edition

This Weekend in Fights! (June 2nd, 2012) crowned a new Ultimate Fighter champion, as well as a new Welterweight contender and a slew of new fighters to the UFC roster. The weekend also featured action in Ireland with Cage Warriors 47, Ring of Fire 43 in Colorado, RMMAC in Russia, NAAFS 8 in Cleveland, XKO 15 in Texas, and Barre Beatdown in Vermont.

The UFC kicked off the weekend with a rare Friday night appearance, concluding the 15th season of The Ultimate Fighter. TUF Live Finale emanated from the Pearl at the Palms in Las Vegas, Nevada. This was the first live season of TUF, where the fighters competed and lived in the house throughout the 13 weeks of the broadcast. Last week as both Mike Chiesa and Al Iaquinta fought to become finalists in an all Team Faber affair. In the storyline finish reminiscent of a Hollywood movie, Mike Chiesa who lost his father after winning his entry bout into the house wins the entire 32-man tournament with a submission finish over Iaquinta. Team Faber’s 5th pick overall Chiesa made short work of Team Faber’s #1 pick Iaquinta by toughing through the early onslaught of strikes from Iaquinta and closing the distance. Chiesa took the fight to the mat taking Iaquinta’s back in the processes. Chiesa secured a body triangle, locking in a deep rear-naked choke that choked Iaqunita out cold at the mid mark of the first round.

Mike Chiesa maybe be the winner of TUF 15, but the event was headlined with a Welterweight showdown between knockout artist Jake Ellenberger squaring of against the crafty Danish veteran Martin Kampmann. Ellenberger stormed in on Kampmann early in the first round, almost bringing the bout he end with a left hook that floored Kampmann. Ellenberger failed to finish the fight with his ground and pound, as Kampmann recovered pulling Ellenberger into a guillotine choke for the remainder of the round. In the second round Ellenberber bloodied up Kampmann’s nose, but stumbled with his footing which proved to be a huge mistake. Kampmann capitalized on this stumble and connected with a series of knees from the clinch dropping Ellenberger to the mat to end the bout before the two minute mark of the second round. Kampmann snaps Ellenberger’s 6-fight win streak and positions himself into the Welterweight title picture.

Charles Oliveira is now 2-0 at Featherweightwith second round submission victory over TUF 12 winner Jonathan Brookins. In very competitive first round Oliveira worked kicks, while Brookins connected with barrages of short punches. Brookings was able to score a takedown but it was short lived as Oliveira return to his feet to conect with superior strikes for the remainder of the round. In the second round Brookins connected during their exchanges bloodying up Oliveira’s nose and forehead. Oliveira quickly clinched and brought the action to the mat. From guard, Brookins worked a guillotine which Oliveira escaped and delivered a series of elbow strikes before slapping his own guillotine choke from the seated position. Oliveira wrenched the choke from the mount, transitioning to guard for the finish. This win marks Oliveira’s second win over an Ultimate Fighter winner.

Also impressive on the card was the “American Boy” Justin Lawrence’s UFC debut. Lawrence was the odds on favorite to win the entire tournament, but losing in the semifinals to eventual winner Mike Chiesa, Team Cruz’s #1 pick Lawrence took on Team Faber’s #6 pick John Cofer. Lawrence outclassed Cofer throughout the first two rounds, but the highlight reel finish came at 19-seconds of the third round, as Lawrence connected with a thip fake, jab, cross, roundhouse kick combo landing his foot flush on the cheek of Cofer, dropping him to the mat for the knockout finish. Also on Friday night, former STRIKEFORCE Heavyweight Grand Prix Semifinalist Sergei Kharitonov headlined Russian MMA Championship (RMMAC) against John Delgado at the Yubileyny Sports Palace in Saint Petersburg, Russia. Kharitonov made short work of Delgado with a 34-second Keylock submission. The event also held a one night Heavyweight tournament with Alexei Kudin coming out the victor. Fighting three times in one night, with two TKO’s and a unanimous decision, Kudin defeated Konstantin Gludov in the finals. (Full RMMAC event results below.)

Cage Warriors started the jam packed Saturday night of fights airing on MMAjunkie.com and Facebook from the The Helix in Dublin, Ireland. The event saw two championship bouts, as Heavweight champion Mike Hayes took on D.J. Linderman for the strap; and the vacant Featherweight title was on the line between England’s Dave Hill and Irishman Conor McGregor.

A rematch three years in the making D.J. Linderman repeated his by getting a unanimous decision victory over Mike Hayes. The difference in this bout, is that it was five rounds and for the Cage Warriors Heavyweight title. Linderman attempted to bring the bout to the ground many times throughout the first two rounds, but displayed superior standup, when Hayes was able to defend those attempts. After attempted many time Linderman was able to score the takedowns in the third round, staying more active than Hayes. Hayes showed some life, and in a sense of urgency landed his own takedown in the fifth, landed some knees to the body and attempted a rear-naked choke. Unfortunately it was too little too late, losing the decision and surrendering his championship in the process.

Irish beats English in the co-main event of the evening as Conor McGregor submitted Dave Hill with a second round rear-naked choke submission. McGregor defended a takedown attempt ending up in top position ignoring Hill’s submission attempts and delivering some ground and pound until the bout was brought back up to their feet. McGregor took this fight again slapping on the submission he would finish the fight with, but not in this round as Hill was saved by the bell. McGregor to the ground early in the second round took Hill’s back and ended it, capturing the vacant Cage Warriors Featherweight title. (Full Cage Warriors 47 event results below.)

MMA Journeyman Phil Baroni headlined Ring of Fire 43 at the 1st Bank Center in Broomfield, Colorado on Saturday. A 28-fight veteran, Baroni has fought in every recognizable promotion including the UFC, Pride, Elite XC, STRIKEFORCE, and ICON Sport among others. The fight had all the makings of an exciting finish, as Baroni’s opponent Chris Holland (4-3) has never gone the distance in his seven bouts, winning all of his bouts via KO/TKO. Of Holland’s three losses, one was by submission and two by knockout, one of which came at the hands of Instinct MMA star Brandon Thatch. This bout was no different from Holland’s other bouts as the finish came via TKO in the second round. Holland picked up is his fifth victory, delivering Baroni his 15th loss. North American Allied Fight Series (NAAFS) took place at the Nautica Pavilion in Cleveland, Ohio and was available on iPPV on GoFightLive.com. The card featured two Bellator fighters and Cleveland natives in Frank Caraballo and Chris Lozano. Frank Caraballo defended his NAAFS Featherweight championship title versus Antonio Castillo Jr. with a quick first round rear-naked choke submission, bring an end to the Puerto Rico/Mexico trash talk between the two. Bellator Season 6 Welterweight tournament quarter-finalist Chris Lozano was originally slated to take on Kyle Baker for the NAAFS Welterweight title, but due to injury, Lozano was pitted against Wisconsin native James Warfield (22-10). Lozano pikced up the victory by putting the beat down on Warfield so bad that he was unable to continue into the second round. (Full NAAFS: Fight Night in the Flats 8 event results below.)

Former UFC Middleweight Jake Rosholt (12-3 MMA, 1-2 UFC) headlined Xtreme Knockout 15 (XKO 15) on Saturday at the The Gym in Arlington, Texas. UFC Hall of Famer Randy Couture and UFC Welterweight Johny Hendricks were special guests for the event. Now fighting at Light Heavyweight, Rosholt took on Matthew Thompson (16-9). Thompson made short work of Rosholt with a first round kneebar submission, snapping Rosholt’s five fight win streak. (Xtreme Knockout 15 event results below.)

Vermont based Xtreme Combat Promotions presented Barre Beatdown at the Barre Municipal Auditorium in Barre, Vermont on Saturday night. A combination of both amateur and professional cage bouts took place in front of a packed house. Ringside Report Radio’s Kevin McKough manned the ring announcing duties for event. Lots of quick finishes and guillotine chokes throughout the night as three of nine bouts ended in that fashion. The main event was a Middleweight bout between Mike Derby and Tim De Iturriaga. The bout was a wrestling war as Berby took De Iturriaga to the ground and worked to improve position. Berby eventually took De Iturriaga’s back sinking in a rear-naked choke for the victory. Dave and Kevin discussed the results from UFC 146 including Junior Dos Santos’ win over Frank Mir, Cain Velasquez destruction of Antonio Silva and the retirement of Mike Brown and Jason “Mayhem” Miller.

Episode 12- May 25, 2012

Al Iaquinta (5-1-1, Team Faber) will face Vinc Pichel (7-0, Team Cruz) and James Vick (4-0, Team Cruz) will fight Michael Chiesa (7-0, Team Faber) in the semi-finals of the TUF 15 Lightweight Tournament on this episode. Iaquinta was Team Faber’s 1^st pick and 2nd overall in the draft while Vinc Pichel was Team Cruz’ 6^th pick, 11^th overall. James Vick was Dominick Cruz’ 5^th selection, 9^th overall and Michael Chiesa was Urijah Faber’s 5^th pick, 10^th overall.

The winner of the show and winning coach will win a Harley Davidson so Dana White takes the semi-finalists and the coaches to learn to a Harley Davidson store to look at motorcycles.

Chris Tickle (Team Cruz) tries to throw a water bottle at Daron Cruickshank (Team Faber) while he is sleeping because he claims Cruickshank is always pulling pranks. Cruickshank gets hit with the bottle and bolts out of bed to find Tickle. Cruickshank throws a kick and a few punches to Tickle’s body and is upset because he was awoken. Cruickshank says he regrets attacking Tickle.

Dana White tells all the fighters that they will get the opportunity to fight on the finale. White announces that Mike Rio (Team Cruz) and Andy Ogle (Team Faber) are ineligible to fight due to a medical suspension. Ogle is devastated that he’s not able to fight and begs Dana White to let him fight when the UFC goes to Nottingham, England in September. White obliges and says: “You got it.”

James Vick says that he wants to “stick and move” and stay away from the cage and “hopefully knock him out.” Dominick Cruz says Vick becomes “like a sitting duck when he’s put on his back.” Dominick Cruz is very concerned with Vick’s lack of ability on the ground.

Michael Chiesa feels he matches up well with James Vick. Chiesa is shown sparring and having trouble. Chiesa gets frustrated and stops training. Chiesa says he’s sick of crying on camera but has not yet fully dealt with the death of his father. Urijah Faber goes to console Chiesa and encourage him to keep training.

Round 1- Chiesa and Vick exchange leg kicks in a tentative first minute. Chiesa and Vick clinch against the fence and fight for position. Chiesa lands two knees to the body but Vick reverses a trip takedown. Chiesa gets to his feet and lands a straight right hand. Vick fires back with some punches but eats a jab. Vick lands a nice left hook and a good uppercut. Vick lands several good punches but Chiesa hits back with a solid jab. Vick and Chiesa exchange punches and Chiesa shoots in for a takedown. Vick defends and keeps Chiesa on the mat. Vick lands some punches and looks to secure a guillotine choke from the mount. Chiesa hangs on long enough for time to expire in the round. I would score Round 1 for James Vick: 10-9

Round 2- Chiesa lands a jab and a straight right hand as he presses forward early in the round. Vick comes back with a solid punch to the body. Chiesa lands a kick to the body and a good jab. Chiesa lands a kick to the body and scores a takedown. Chiesa quickly transitions into a mount and rains down a flurry of punches that leave Vick helplessly covering up.

Al Iaquinta is shown training. Urijah Faber says Al Iaquinta was his first pick and never disappointed. Faber says the game-plan is to get Pichel backing up “and make him realize that he’s not the tougher dude.”

Vinc Pichel says he’s been working very hard throughout the competition. Pichel says he likes to “throw bombs.” Dominick Cruz thinks that whoever lands the better strike will be the winner. Cruz believes that is Pichel can avoid the takedown he will be able to out-work Iaquinta and win the fight.

Al Iaquinta (5-1-1, Team Faber) versus Vinc Pichel (7-0, Team Cruz) TUF 15 Lightweight Tournament Semi-Final

Round 1- Iaquinta shoots in for a takedown and brings Pichel to the mat. Iaquinta takes his back and gets on hook in as he works for a rear-naked choke. Pichel gets back to his feet and looks to land punches but takes a good kick to the body. Pichel lands a right uppercut but takes two kicks to the legs. Pichel lands a jab and right-hook combination that bloodies Iaquinta’s nose. Iaquinta lands an overhand right but Pichel lands another solid right hook. Iaquinta lands a kick to the body but takes a punch and a hard knee to the body. Iaquinta lands a takedown with one minute remaining in the round and lands in Pichel’s guard. Iaquinta lands solid punches and looks for a guillotine choke but Pichel gets to his feet. Pichel lands a kick to the leg that Iaquinta tries to turn into a takedown as time expires. I would score Round 1 for Al Iaquinta: 10-9

Round 2- Iaquinta lands a solid jab and a head kick in the first 10 seconds of the round. Iaquinta lands a big uppercut and avoids bombs being thrown by Pichel’s fists. Iaquinta lands a leg kick but takes an overhand right and a straight right hand by Pichel. Pichel lands a big jab that appears to dislodge Iaquinta’s mouthpiece. Time is called and the mouthpiece is put back into place. Pichel lands solid jabs to the bloodied nose of Iaquinta but eats an uppercut and a leg kick. Pichel defends a takedown attempt from Iaquinta and counters with a knee to the body. Iaquinta lands a leg kick and punch to the body. Pichel is now bleeding from his mouth. Iaquinta pushes hard for a takedown but eats several punches as Pichel defends. Pichel lands a knee to the body but Iaquinta fires back with a solid jab. The fighters exchange punches furiously and they swing for the fences in the final 30 seconds. I would score a very close Round 2 for Vinc Pichel: 10-9

Episode 11- May 18, 2012.

Chris Saunders (Team Faber) will face Vinc Pichel (Team Cruz) in a quarter-final bout on this episode. Andy Ogle (Team Faber) will fight Al Iaquinta (Team Faber) in the other quarter-final for this episode. Chris Saunders was picked 8^th by Team Faber, 16^th (last) overall while Vinc Pichel was selected 6^th by Team Cruz, 11^th overall. Andy Ogle was picked 7^th, 14^th overall and Al Iaquinta was picked 1^st by Team Faber, 2^nd overall.

Chris Saunders is shown training. Urjah Faber says he was worried about Saunders’ mental game but he is not anymore. Faber says Saunders and Pichel like to stand and bang. Faber says Saunders is faster and has better stand-up than Pichel.

Saunders says he fights to be a positive role model for his younger brother. Saunders explains being separated from his siblings when his parents could not care for them. Saunders has an emotional conversation with Andy Ogle about his difficult childhood.

Vinc Pichel is shown training. Dominick Cruz says the key to this fight for Pichel will be to takedown Saunders and “brutalize him on the ground, hopefully getting a submission.” Cruz wants Pichel to stay on top of Saunders and “grind” if they he can’t get a submission. Cruz wants Pichel to put a lot of pressure on Saunders and box from the inside in order to avoid Saunders’ kicks. Pichel says: “no matter where this fight goes, I don’t really see him even really having a chance of beating me.”

Chris Saunders (9-2, Team Faber) v. Vinc Pichel (7-0, Team Cruz) (TUF 15 Lightweight Quarter-Final)

Round 1- Pichel lands a solid leg kick but Saunders hits one of his own. Pichel clinches Saunders against the fence and looks for a double leg takedown. Saunders defends and reverses the clinch position against the fence. Saunders lands a takedown of his own and lands an elbow in Pichel’s guard. Pichel controls Saunders in his guard and lands some elbows to the head from the bottom. Saunders lands a solid punch but Pichel keeps an active guard and gets to his feet. Saunders hangs on but Pichel separates. Saunders lands an uppercut but gets his head jolted with a jab. Pichel clinches Saunders against the fence looking for a single-leg takedown but Saunders defends. Pichel lands an elbow from the clinch and scores on a quick double-leg takedown. Saunders gets right back to his feet and they continue to clinch against the fence. The fighters exchange knees to the body and separate. Saunders eats a jab and a right hand but fires back with a nice left. Sauders clinches Pichel against the fence but eats a knee to the body as time expires. Pichel is bleeding from his nose. I would score Round 1 for Chris Saunders: 10-9

Round 2- Saunders and Pichel exchange leg kicks and Pichel pushes Saunders against the fence again looking for a takedown. Pichel lands a knee to the body in the clinch but Saunders does a good job of defending the takedown. Pichel lands a solid elbow and knee to the body while pinning Saunders against the fence and looks for a single-leg takedown. Pichel finally lands the takedown but only momentarily gets Saunders on his back before he gets to his feet. Saunders lands a big knee to the face that drops Pichel to his knees. Pichel gets to his feet when Saunders looks to take his back. Saunders hangs on to his back but eats some back elbows to the face. Saunders looks for a takedown but Pichel defends and they separate. Pichel charges in with punches but does not connect. Pichel does connect on a knee to the body and clinches Saunders. Saunders reverses the position and looks for a takedown but takes several punches. Pichel rushes in and connects with big punches and knees to the face before pushing Saunders in the fence and scoring a takedown. Pichel hangs on to Saunders as he struggles to get to his feet. Saunders reverses the position and tries to take Pichel’s back. Saunders momentarily lands a body triangle before Pichel shakes him off. Saunders clinches Pichel but Pichel pushes off and lands big punches and a knee to the face. I would score Round 2 for Vinc Pichel: 10-9

Vinc Pichel def. Chris Saunders via majority decision (20-18, 20-18, 19-19) to advance to semi-finals of TUF 15 lightweight tournament

I scored this fight a draw 19-19. I think this fight needed the third round. Perhaps Saunders will get another opportunity at the TUF finale show on June 1.

Vinc Pichel will fight the winner of Al Iaquinta v. Andy Ogle on May 25 in the semi-finals.

Urijah Faber tells Al Iaquinta that he cannot coach him or Andy Ogle for their fight because they are both on Team Faber.

Andy Ogle says he expects a war. Ogle says he thinks he’s learned the most in the house. Urijah Faber says Andy Ogle has mentally stepped up his game. Andy Ogle says he’s going to hit Iaquinta and move and “make him come to me.” Ogle says: “I want this more than anyone.”

Al Iaquinta says: “I feel like I’m the hardest working person here. Round 1- Ogle lands a leg kick but Iaquinta hits one of his own. The fighters collide in the center of the cage and exchange punches. Ogle lands a left hook but eats a jab from Iaquinta. Iaquinta lands a hard right hook but Ogle lands two jabs. Iaquinta lands a kick to the body and Ogle charges in looking to land punches but is evaded. Ogle lands a big overhand right but Iaquinta fires back with a solid leg kick and uppercut. Iaquinta lands a push kick and a good two-punch combination. Iaquinta lands another heavy leg kick but takes a right hand. Iaquinta drops Ogle with a short right hook and lands big punches and elbows. Iaquinta looks to sink in a guillotine but Ogle defends and gets back to his feet. Iaquinta stays with Ogle and drops him with a huge power elbow. Iaquinta throws a hammer fist and the referee stops the fight.

Al Iaquinta will face Vinc Pichel next episode in the semi finals on May 25. James Vick (Team Cruz) will face Michael Chiesa (Team Faber) in the other semi-final on May 25.

Dana White says the first round of the Chris Saunders- Vinc Pichel fight could have gone “either way.” White felt there was no doubt that Pichel won Round 2 and thought the judges made the right decision.

Dana White announces that Renan Barao will fight Urijah Faber on July 7 at UFC 148 for the interim UFC bantamweight championship. Dominick Cruz is the current champion and will not be able to face Faber due to a knee injury.
