TNA: Immortal Forever? DVD review

Send to Kindle

Hulk Hogan and Eric Bischoff completely changed the landscape of Total Nonstop Action two years in a row and now fans can relive how it all began in TNA’s latest DVD release Immortal Forever?

Starting from Hogan’s announcement at Madison Square Garden that he was coming to TNA and ending with the dethroning of Jeff Hardy by Sting, Hogan along with his Immortals explains why he had to take over TNA in interviews shot in the same style as the ones on Impact Wrestling. Dixie Carter along with AJ Styles, Beer Money and Kazarian give their side of Hogan’s evil takeover. While Styles puts down Hogan all the time, the others do give Hogan his dues and explain how they went along with Hogan for a while.

This DVD set also takes you back to particular moments that stood out when TNA was on Mondays. The entire feud and matches Hogan had with Ric Flair are all shown along with the complete 2010 Lethal Lockdown match featuring Team Hogan against Team Flair. Hogan explains his problems with Sting that led to Sting completely destroying Jeff Jarrett and a future suspension. Unfortunately, matches like RVD VS. Abyss from Bound for Glory 2010 and Jeff Hardy against Mr. Anderson in a ladder match for the TNA World Title from Against All Odds 2011 are shown already in progress.

Despite a few times when the story gets sidetracked with Hogan-Flair and the introduction of EV2, the biography is mostly in chronological order. As much as this is a DVD about the Hogan-Bischoff regime it is also a DVD documenting Sting’s achievements in TNA and why he decided to stay for the last two years to battle the Hulkster. Despite Sting winning the World Title Hogan does get the final say at the end of both discs.

Hogan seems genuinely upset over Carter’s comments about EV2 being the 90′s equivalent to Hulk in the 80′s. Hogan goes on a decently long rant about how the guys in EV2 do not even compare to what he did. Hogan also seems genuine when he talks about how guys need to step up now that wrestling matters. He criticizes the TNA originals for having five-star matches that no one cares about because they are not following his guidance.

TNA could have also called this TNA: 2010-2011 Greatest Moments, as it feels a bit like a follow-up to last year’s Greatest Moments DVD. Considering you’re getting over six hours of storytelling and matches you definitely get your money’s worth for the low price this DVD goes for. The addition of complete matches to a DVD set like this makes it a lot more desirable than last year’s. Surprisingly the best wrestler in TNA, Kurt Angle, is rarely featured although his Bound For Glory match against Mr. Anderson and Jeff Hardy is shown.

WWE: Greatest Superstars of the 21st Century DVD review

Send to Kindle

Relive the rise to super stardom in the WWE of John Cena, Rey Mysterio, Batista, Edge, Randy Orton, and the return of Shawn Michaels in WWE: Greatest Superstars of the 21st Century.

Like past WWE DVDs covering the greatest superstars of the 80′s and 90′s, WWE: Greatest Superstars of the 21st Century covers the WWE stars that made the biggest impact from 2000-2009. More than 20 stars of the past decade are featured in short highlight packages on the first disc while the two other discs are filled with matches. The majority of the commentary comes from the current WWE roster and officials.

Surprisingly WWE showcases talent that no longer works for the company. Brock Lesnar, Jeff Hardy and Kurt Angle all get their own video bios. Angle’s video does poke fun at Angle being a goof more than his abilities at being a great wrestler though. When it comes to Hardy and Lesnar they are both given their dues for their unique and memorable moments in WWE history. Eddie Guerrero is also given a respectable tribute for his five-year contribution to WWE.

Lesnar VS. Angle in a 60-minute Ironman match for the WWE Championship is the most exciting match on this DVD set as it was quite possibly one of the best WWE television matches of all-time. Great back-and-forth action with brilliant storytelling. Although Lesnar’s career in WWE was short, the Ironman match with Angle may have been his best match. Kane unmasking after his match with HHH is a noteworthy event as it spawned into Kane’s current demonic character.

For most WWE fans this is a trip down a very recent memory lane. New WWE fans will likely benefit from this history lesson if they only tuned in a few years ago. A little disappointed that they did not expand on some of the controversial moments a lot of superstars caused. While The Miz hints at how JBL is a bully and did not like him there was no in-depth reasons to why JBL treated new talent poorly. The WWE portrays a positive light on almost every aspect of their entertainers.

TNA: Bound For Glory 2010 DVD review

Send to Kindle

The biggest Total Nonstop Action Wrestling event of the year Bound For Glory, saw the crowning of Jeff Hardy as World Champion when he joined ‘they,’ an evil group ran by Hulk Hogan and Eric Bischoff.

Now in a special two-disc DVD release, fans can relive all the memorable confrontations from TNA’s biggest pay-per-view of the year and for the first time they get exclusive pre-and-post match interviews, a behind-the-scenes look at the fan expo before the big event, the entire Before The Bell preview show for BFG and the standard music video recap and photo gallery for the extravaganza. TNA continues to deliver more bonus content than World Wrestling Entertainment does with their PPV DVD releases.

Not only did TNA deliver with a main event match of Hardy versus Mr. Anderson versus Kurt Angle for the TNA title, the rest of the card was quite possibly one of the best lineups TNA has ever presented. Rob Van Dam against Abyss was a solid hardcore match that saw the use of barbed wire boards, steel chairs and a bit of blood shed between the two. For fans of absolutely insane brawls, there will be a lot of love for the Lethal Lockdown showdown between Fortune and EV 2.0. It is the last time for many of the Extreme Championship Wrestling originals to have one true moment of glory before the group starts to fall apart and exits the company.

Eric Young teaming with Orlando Jordan in a battle against Ink Inc. provided the comedy for the night, while The Motor City Machine Guns against Generation Me featured great back and forth action and innovating high-flying maneuvers. Sting and The Pope and Kevin Nash against Jeff Jarrett and Samoa Joe helped elevate the shocking revelation of Hogan and Bischoff’s regime and the Knockouts match had a bit more intrigue thanks to the addition of Mickie James to TNA who definitely adds a lot more star power to that division.

TNA has traditionally shaped up their entire year based off what transpires at BFG and last year’s was no different. The PPV also is a strong showing on far TNA has come along in not only bringing in some of the biggest names in pro wrestling, but also introducing brand new superstars to the wrestling audience. If you tired of WWE’s programming, TNA does offer an alternate that is not afraid to be edgy or controversial.
