The final D-Generation X run starting from HHH finding Shawn Michaels superkicking a little mouthy girl to their defeat as WWE Undisputed Tag Team Champions is retold in DX: One Last Stand.

The new three-disc set released by WWE starts in the summer of 2009 and ends early in 2010. The disc set wraps up with the entire HBK farewell speech on RAW along with DX making fun of themselves for being so emotional.

From Vince McMahon’s 64th birthday bash to Little People’s Court with Hornswoggle, all the memorable promos and moments DX created on RAW are showcased. Full PPV matches against Legacy in a Hell in a Cell match and their Undisputed Tag Team Championship against Jeri-Show in a TLC match are also shown. Several celebrities made appearances with DX at this time which included Bob Barker, the wrestling debut of ‘The Flame’ Jon Heder and many others.

The new exclusive footage for the DVD are a few segments where HHH and HBK are in a tank trying to go hunting. In the special features on the first disc there is short look at DX behind the scenes of Monday Night RAW. The unfiltered clip shows DX in script rehearsals, going over their matches, making fun of Big Show and greeting HHH’s wife Stephanie McMahon behind the camera.

While the DVD focuses mainly on DX’s last run, there are many occasions during their segments where they show their 1997 antics along with their war with the McMahon family in 2006. The DVD set is definitely a must have if you missed on all the shenanigans DX pulled off. Not only did DX create memorable moments with well-known celebrities, but they also had some of the best tag matches they ever had as a unit. Unless HBK goes back on his retirement promise, this is definitely the last new DX DVD.

Telling your boss, “what the fuck was I suppose to do,” can get you fired, but for Chris Jericho he ended up the first ever World Wrestling Entertainment Undisputed World Champion.

In his second memoirs, Jericho picks up where he left off in A Lion’s Tale, as he made his WWE debut in 1999. This book focuses on Jericho’s WWE run until 2005 and the rise to fame for his rock band Fozzy. In the later chapters, Jericho recalls his acting career that blossomed into live theatre, an appearance on FOX’s Celebrity Duets, and getting snubbed by “fabricated fuckface” Joan Rivers.

Wrestling fans that enjoy backstage stories will not be disappointed with this read. Jericho openly talks about his problems with HHH and DX when he first started in WWE. The heat against Jericho was so bad that it led to Vince McMahon yelling, “What the fuck is your problem? You don’t have a fucking clue what you’re doing out there.” Jericho sought wisdom throughout the locker room to improve his standing in the company. In the end, it was his time with Montrealer Pat Patterson that guided Jericho to main event status.

Metalheads will enjoy the amount of indepth adventures Jericho has had as a musician. Hanging out with Adrian Smith of Iron Maiden, having Sharon Osbourne call him “stupid twats” with Zakk Wylde, and threats of bodily harm to a member of American Head Charge, are just a few of the hilarious tales Jericho has from the music scene. His time as Drunkicho really adds some excitement to the stories, one that saw him go to prison and regret his drinking ways.

The humour and sadness from the first book continue on in this sequel. What makes this one even better than the first is Jericho ending grudges with old enemies Eric Bischoff, Bill Goldberg and Danny, the one who destroyed his mother’s life. The passing of Jericho’s mom is a heartwrenching chapter, the emotions Jericho was feeling during that time are so powerful that it is hard to ever hate such a caring son again. The chapter on Chris Benoit is thankfully one Jericho did not ignore. His insight on Benoit before and after the murders was so important to mention considering the influence Benoit has had on his life.

Jericho did make a few factual errors; he wrote that he wrestled William Regal at WrestleMania X8 but it was WrestleMania X7, he won the Undisputed Championship at Vengeance not Armageddon, and at Fully Loaded 2000 Perry Saturn wrestled Eddie Guerrero with Chyna at ringside instead of Chyna versus Saturn.

As far as wrestling books go this one has it all. Controversy, triumph, tragedies, drunken escapades, a wedding, and a setup for a possible third book. Jericho has led an incredible life and met some of the most famous people in the world. From Wayne Gretzky to Ricky Gervais, Jericho admits he was and is still a fanboy when meeting a lot of his heroes. Having to tell Paul McCartney that he is “a fookin wanker” is one of many reasons why this is a must read.

In the spirit of ‘Brocktober’, it’s fitting that a book detailing the life and times of Brock Lesnar, the current Heavyweight Champion in the Ultimate Fighting Championship, is released.

For the mixed martial arts fans that are unfamiliar with Lesnar’s past accolades, Brock Lesnar: The Making of a Hard-Core Legend, is the book for you. This is not the autobiography that Lesnar and former World Wrestling Entertaiment creative mind, Paul Heyman, have been working on though.

Sports writer Joel Rippel, with the use of newspaper articles, bio DVDs and quotes from the Internet, retells Lesnar’s simple beginnings in Minnesota and eventual growth into becoming ‘The Next Big Thing.’

A lot of early quotes are taken from WWE’s DVD Here Comes The Pain, as Lesnar’s family and wrestling coaches were heavily involved in the production. Nearly all of Lesnar’s wrestling career is documented in the book; his struggle starting off as a freshman, jumping back and forth between football and wrestling, and becoming an NCAA champion in 2000.

The physical specimen that is Lesnar is well-enforced throughout. The author went out of his way to mention that Lesnar denies any steroid usage and he passed all of his drug tests.

A few WWE facts were used incorrectly; Rob Van Dam never won the Intercontiential Title from Lesnar, once Lesnar went to Smackdown exclusively in 2002 his WWE World Championship was no longer considered an Undisputed Title, and by the time Lesnar wrestled Bradshaw he was no longer known as Justin ‘Hawk’ Bradshaw. These and other errors were likely made due to collecting historical facts on the Internet that are not always accurate.

Lesnar’s WWE career is quickly summed up, but his departure is a long conflict that is showed from both sides. Lesnar says he “wasn’t ready to be traveling 300 days a year.” WWE head boss Vince McMahon Jr. calls Lesnar “an introvert” who “hurt the company” with his sudden departure from wrestling.

Lesnar’s brief stint in the National Football League is followed by his lawsuit with WWE over him competing until 2010. Thankfully for Lesnar and MMA fans, Lesnar was able to settle the dispute and land a job with UFC. All of Lesnar’s fights, and his near fatal illness, are all included. The book ends with hype for his fight with Cain Velasquez.

The lack of a conclusion is disappointing, however the Brock Lesnar appendix, and glossary of his moves and feuds is a neat addition. Overall it’s a really short read.

Wrestling greats like Eddie Guerrero, Mike Awesome, Road Warrior Hawk, Chris Benoit and many more have succumbed to horrible fates mainly due to the difficulty of maintaining their bodies after being in wrestling for a long period of time.

For years a dark cloud has engulfed professional wrestlers when it comes to their latter years, but after reading Rick Bognar’s Wrestling With Consciousness it’s very refreshing to see that there are wrestlers who are able to find peace after their wrestling career is over.
Bognar, 6’6, 290 lbs, was known to most wrestling fans as the Fake Razor Ramon, appearing on World Wrestling Entertainment television during late 1996 after the original Razor Ramon, Scott Hall, left WWE to wrestle for World Championship Wrestling.

Bognar’s stint in WWE did not last long as he reveals in the book that WWE boss Vince McMahon Jr. only wanted to prove to Hall that he made the character and that he could easily do whatever he wanted with the character. Bognar believes McMahon has a God complex, the same McMahon who created his religion ‘McMahonism’ and who wrestled and defeated God on pay-per-view.

Bognar also found success in Extreme Championship Wrestling. He wrestled mainly as Rick Titan until ECW boss Paul Heyman saw his Razor Ramon impersonation and got McMahon’s attention. Bognar believes his WWE career ended thanks to the departure of Bret Hart with the company in 1997. Bognar’s theory looks tight—a lot of WWE talent that were friends with Hart were released not too long after Hart’s jump to wCw.

Bognar did find quite a bit of success wrestling in Japan, where he explains his friendship with Awesome, who was also quite popular in Japan. Bognar explains that he was not a stiff wrestler, but when the time asked for it and if the time and place was right, he was no stranger to it. Unfortunately in Japan he saw his career slowly drifting away as his only hope was a “maybe you go to wCw” from his Japanese bosses. Bognar did not even get that chance as he suffered a terrible neck injury that left him with two cracked vertebrae, ending his career.

Bognar is extremely honest when he talks about how careless he was with his money, how egoistical he was asking for stuff because he was Razor Ramon and how he had prima donna girlfriends who loved him when times were great, but played Houdini when times weren’t. When he discusses his dark times, such as his painkiller abuse period, it really shows that Bognar did not just wake up one morning and changed his ways, he learned the hard way.

With life experience and Buddha techniques, Bognar now believes that in order to be happy one needs to be happy with themselves. He finds self-improvement requires courage and work because it’s not just going to happen. Surrounding yourself with happiness is one thing, but you also need to keep up with what is going on around you in the world, something Bognar calls ‘suffering of change’.

Bognar found that at 29 years of age, he still had a whole life to live. After his wrestling career, Bognar met Lisa, a woman who he felt melted into their energy. Once he got past “Are you gay?” he soon found the love that he always wanted in life.

Wrestling With Consciousness is a short autobiography featuring a few random black and white pictures of Bognar during and after his time in the squared circle. Wrestling historians will be in an uproar over Bognar’s retelling of the Survivor Series 1997 screwjob—Bret getting pinned and then yelling at Earl Hebner is not exactly what happened. However, Bognar’s tale should be a leading example for wrestlers and different types of celebrities who fall from grace and have trouble picking up the pieces of their lives.

How many people can say they were Muhammad Ali’s role model growing up? Most would never expect that he would say a professional wrestler.

Gorgeous George Wagner, born in 1915, who also inspired Bob Dylan, by giving him “the look.” The late James Brown said, “After I saw him and the special flamboyance he added to his matches, that helped create the James Brown you see onstage.”

In John Capouya’s Gorgeous George: The Outrageous Bad Boy Wrestler who Created American Pop Culture, the first-ever biography on the legendary professional wrestler, we learn how George transformed from a high school drop-out to one of the first-ever television actors, who touched a frightened and hero-seeking audience in the United States in the 1930s and ‘60s.

George was an anti-hero-the first-ever snobby blonde, cowardly wrestler.
While people looked for a hero, they enjoyed watching George get beat up every week. Wrestling was easier to market since TV technology was not yet advanced enough to keep up with the speed of baseball or football and boxing was unpredictable. At the time, wrestling was more profitable than Major League Baseball on TV. Bob Hope even joined in on George’s celebrity status on more than one occasion.

So many wrestlers have copied his persona or made slight variations of it. From Ric Flair to Hulk Hogan, (a photo of Hogan in a toupee is featured in the book) there have been many household names that took many of the antics George first introduced.

Even today, former World Heavyweight Champion Chris Jericho showcases mannerisms similar to “The Human Orchid.” Copycats in name and gimmick were around when George was competing, thanks to greedy promoter Jack Pfefer, who tried to make as much money off George without paying him.

Although the self-proclaimed “Toast of the Coast” died the day after Christmas in 1963, Capouya is able to put together a lot of details on George’s life thanks to his first wife Betty-—who is over 93 years old—his second wife, wrestlers, files from George’s arch nemesis Pfefer, and many more.
George is pictured as a kind and gentle soul outside of the ring, but inside the ring he has no problem calling his opponents “chink” or threatening to kill one of his opponents for messing up his “gorgeous hair.”

Stardom took a toll on George. He became an unsuccessful gambler and an abusive alcoholic. It is believed he had a girlfriend in almost every state. Eventually Betty got fed up. George went on to brood until he found a stripper who looked similar to Betty. His second divorce was blamed on spousal abuse.

Capouya’s extensive work on George is not limited to the fact that some issues with his life remain unknown. Unlike a lot of World Wrestling Entertainment propaganda books that stretch or hide the truth to protect the WWE, Capouya is not afraid to admit that some of what he has been told may not be completely accurate considering he is dealing with a sport of fakery.

This book is a great history lesson for wrestling fans wanting to know about one of the first true gimmicks and one of the true innovators of sports entertainment. It is filled with wrestling terminology, but enough explanations are provided. Chapters on Ali and Brown’s backgrounds seem unnecessary, but Capouya argues that without George there would be no Madonna, Liberace, Jesse Ventura, Dennis Rodman and the like. But that’s something only readers can decide after reading this unique biography.

Hitman: My Real Life in the Cartoon World of Wrestling is a 573-page (with a name index for wrestlers included at the end) emotional ride beginning with Hart’s tough time growing up in a poor family with 11 siblings and ending with Hart trying to come to terms with his near-fatal stroke and the death of his brother Owen.

Hart writes on his childhood dealing with an abusive father, schoolyard bullies and the pain of having multiple siblings. Hart is also open about the controversies of his wrestling career—his limited steroid use, his many sexual affairs while married and how his friendly relationship with wrestler Shawn Hickenbottom, aka Shawn Michaels, went sour when HBK’s clique decided they were going to kill the wrestling industry.

Wrestling fans who enjoyed the documentary Hitman Hart: Wrestling with Shadows and Bret Hart’s DVD (Bret “Hitman” Hart: The Best There Is, The Best There Was, The Best There Ever Will Be.) set released by Hart and World Wrestling Entertainment will not have to worry about reading old, tired Hitman stories. If his early life, working for his dad’s Stampede wrestling federation and his time in Japan weren’t enough, Hart recounts, in great detail, the Survivor Series “screwjob” that happened 12 years ago in Montreal. Hart is still bitter in the book compared to how he felt recently on Monday Night Raw. He also describes his entire WWE run and how he felt about each talent he worked with, how terribly the World Championship Wrestling management misused him and the time WCW wrestler Bill Goldberg kicked him so hard he had to retire.

At times it seems as though Hart should go into more detail, such as regarding his supposed affair with WWE diva Sunny or his thoughts on Extreme Championship Wrestling talent besides Sabu and a lot of his WCW run. However, Hart leaves nothing out about his bizarre relationship with WWE promoter Vince McMahon, his dislike for Ric Flair’s nonstop non-use of psychology and telling the immortal Hulk Hogan “you can go fuck yourself” after he refused to lose to Hart at SummerSlam 1993.

Non-wrestling fans too will be intrigued by the wild stories of Hart’s trips to wrestling shows and their aftermaths. Getting stoned regularly at strip clubs, his brother Smith’s reckless driving, a near fatal adventure in Puerto Rico and the shenanigans Owen was famous for keeps the humour alive in a book filled with tragedies.

By the end of the book, most of the people he talks about have either died or are no longer a part of his life. The wrestling business has taken much more from Hart than just his pride.

Kozlov comes out and interrupts the hype and wants to wrestle Ezekiel Jackson right now. Jackson comes out and they start to brawl but Regal comes down and begs them to stop. Shelton Benjamin comes out and says let them fight. Regal says there is only one of him so shut up. Christian comes out with Yoshi Tatsu and says its even now for the main event. Regal says no, but Tiffany says its that or Jackson VS. Kozlov one on one. Jackson wants the single match but Kozlov wants the six-man, so it’s a six-man main event.

Tommy Dreamer VS. Vance Archer Archer dominated Dreamer from the start and made Dreamer looked like the jobber he was before he became ECW champion for the first time in almost a decade. Archer does a lot of choking until Dreamer makes his tradition comeback. Dreamer goes for the DDT but Archer pushes him off into a big boot. Archer hits the Dreamer Driver for the three count.

Winner- Vance Archer

Tiffany is backstage mad at Paul Burchill for attacking The Hurricane after leaving ECW. Burchill says he is no longer Paul Burchill but The Ripper and his sister is The Beautiful Nightmare. Gregory Helms came in and said what’s up with that? Tiffany says they are back in ECW if they beat The Hurricane next week.

Zack Ryder and Rosa Mendes backstage making fun of Tommy Dreamer calling him a dinosaur. Ryder says he use to watch Dreamer and wanted to be like him. Now Ryder wants to end him. Dreamer looks mad.

Mark Franks & Danny Vaughn VS. Trent Barreta & Caylen Croft
Apparently Barreta and Croft used Guitar Hero to get ready for their matches, but this week they used Mario Kart Wii. Lots of tags back and forth by Motorcity MachineGuns 2009. Barreta knocks Franks off the apron and they nail their atomic drop with a running knee finisher for the three count.

Winners- Barreta and Croft

Yoshi Tatsu & Shelton Benjamin & Christian VS. Vladimir Kozlov & Ezekiel Jackson & William Regal
Christian with his speed until Jackson grounds him with power. Jackson tags in Regal who works back and forth with Christian. Tatsu comes in and quickly tags in Shelton, who quickly tags Christian. Regal nails a big clothesline on Christian. Kozlov tagged in and works down Christian. Shelton tagged in and knocked outside to the floor as we go to break. Regal working down Shelton as we come back from break. Regal’s group takes turns working over Shelton. Kozlov with a belly to belly suplex for a two count. Shelton makes a hot tag to Tatsu who uses his kicks on Jackson. Jackson tries to tag Kozlov but Kozlov falls to the apron. Arguing leads to a countout.

Winners- Christian, Yoshi Tatsu and Shelton Benjamin
