This Weekend in Fights! (November 3rd, 2012) featured Bellator 79 in Ontario, World Series of Fighting and Resurrection Fighting Alliance 4 in Las Vegas, two Aggression Fighting Championship events in Calgary and British Columbia, an Fight Time 12 in Florida.

Bellator 79 kicked off the weekend from Casino Rama in Rama, Ontario, Canada on Friday night, featured tournament semifinal bouts in Heavyweight and Featherweight divisions. In the main event Richard Hale and Thiago Santos squared off in the Heavyweight semifinal. Hale escaped the early assault from Santos, who was attempting and ending the bout early. In the process, Santos gassed out and allowed Hale to take advantage and pick a TKO victory in the middle of the first round. Hale now advances into the finals where he will take on the winner of next week’s event between Vinicius Queiroz and Alexander Volkov.

In the Featherweight tournament semifinal Shahbulat Shamhalaev knocked out Mike Richman in under two minutes to advance. Shamhalaev now awaits the winner Wagnney Fabiano versus Rad Martinez, which takes place next week at Bellator 80.

Quebec MMA fighters Guillaume De Lorenzi and Christ Franck were successful at the event. Former Ringside MMA Lightweight champion De Lorenzi submitted Jonny Carson with 11-seconds remaining in the first round to win his Bellator debut. Former Ringside and Instinct MMA fighter Christ Franck won his Bellator debut with a split decision victory over Marcus “Lelo” Aurelio winning on two judges score cards 29-28. Las Vegas’ Friday night event Resurrection Fighting Alliance 4 took place at the Texas Station Gambling Hall & Hotel with the bouts airing AXS TV. The main event was a battle of UFC veterans Tyson Griffin and Efrain Escudero. After three rounds Griffin was declared the winner unanimously in his first win since being released by the UFC.

Brothers of  “Anthonys” in the UFC  Chidi Njokuani, brother of Anthony Njokuani, picked up a  third round TKO victory over Phil Dace, and Sergio Pettis, brother of Anthony Pettis picked up a unanimous decision over Jimmy Jones.

Also on the card, Lance Palmer defeated UFC and WEC veteran Fredson Paixao via split decision.Former gay porn actor and TUF alumni Dakota Cochrane improved his win streak to two with an armbar submission over Derrick Burnsed in the first round. UFC, STRIKEFORCE, and Bellator veteran Vagner Rocha headlined Fight Time 12 – Warriors Collide event at the War Memorial Auditorium in Fort Lauderdale, Florida on Friday night. In his first post-UFC bout, Rocha submitted Mike Bruno with a triangle choke 53-seconds into the second round. (Full Fight Time 12 – Warriors Collide event results below.)

Aggression Fighting Championship held back-to-back events on Friday and Saturday night. AFC 12 – Domination took place at Telus Convention Centre, in Calgary, Alberta on Friday night. Headlining the event was Ringside MMA veteran Paul Cheng in Heavyweight action against Ryan Hunter. Cheng made short work of Hunter with a knockout in under two minutes of the first round. On Saturday night AFC 13 – Natural Selection took place at the Bear Mountain Arena, in Victoria, British Columbia. The main event of John Alessio versus Dave Mazany was rendered a no contest after Mazany accidentally poked Alessio in the eye in the forst round. The co-main event featured TUF 3 winner and UFC veteran Kendall Grove sqauring off against Ariel Gandulla. Grove picked up the TKO victory with 15-seconds remaining in the second round. Saturday night was the World Series of Fighting’s inaugural event, which emanated from Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino in Las Vegas. Heavyweight collided in the first round as Andrei Arlovski faced Devin Cole. Arlovski made short work of Cole with a first round TKO, improving his win streak to three.

UFC veteran Anthony Johnson knocked out D.J. Linderman in the first round for his fourth straight victory since being released from the UFC, snapping Linderman’s three fight win streak in the process.

Former WEC Bantamweight champion and pound-4-pound kingpin Miguel Torres is now riding a two-fight losing skid, and going the distance with Marlon Moraes. After three rounds, two of the judges scored the bout for Moraes, giving him the split decision victory.

Dutch-Surinamese kickboxing sensation Tyrone Spong made his successful MMA debut with a knockout of Travis Bartlett in the first round.

On the undercard, UFC veterans Josh Burkman and Gerald Harris went the distance in a three round war, with Burkman winning a unanimous decision, and improving his streak to four. Brian Cobb snapped Ronys Torres’ 11-fight win streak with a split decision. STRIKEFORCE and DREAM Gesias “JZ” Cavalcante snapped his two-fight losing skid with a 63-second heel hook submission of T.J. O’Brien.Bellator and UFC veteran David Branch picked up a unanimous decision victory over UFC veteran Dustin Jacoby snapping his two-fight win streak in the process.
