Gasparzinho (Team Vitor) v. Rony Jason (Team Wanderlei) will take place on this episode. Rony Jason was picked 1st overall in the draft by Team Wanderlei Silva. Gasparzinho was picked 8th by Team Vitor, 16th (last) overall. The bout will be the last quarter-final in the featherweight division.

Wanderlei Silva said he did not want to see this fight because Gasparzinho and Rony Jason are friends from outside the competition.

Gasparzinho is upset because he was picked last in the draft, is the last to fight and is being forced to fight a friend in the quarter-finals.

Vitor Belfort says Gasparzinho has talent and guts. Gasparzinho says his parents divorced when he was 9 years old and his father left. Gasparzinho says he didn’t see his father for 4 or 5 years. Gasparzinho began training in karate and tae kwon do before moving to capoeira. He then started training jiu-jitsu. Gasparzinho says he was involved in drugs and crime between the ages of 16-20 but began taking martial arts more seriously and changed his life.

Rony Jason says he was studying law but quit to become a professional fighter. Rony Jason says he wants to be a UFC champion. Rony says his brother is a crack-addict who suffered relapse days before he entered TUF. Rony Jason says that his brother is his hero and he fights for him. Rony Jason says his mother is his life and if he had “30% of her strength not even Cigano or Jon Jones would stop me.”

Team Wanderlei coach Rafael Cordeiro to use his knees in the fight and that will be the key to victory.

Rony Jason tells a teammate he is afraid of getting tired. Serginho (Team Vitor) says his team knows Rony Jason lacks conditioning and can get tired.

Vitor Belfort told his team that Dana White had given him the option to replace a middleweight and a featherweight on his team. White never said that, Vitor is using the story to motivate his team. Belfort makes his team all talk to the camera for 30 seconds to say why they should stay. Members of Team Vitor are skeptical about the story but do work harder just in case Belfort is telling the truth.

Lyoto Machida arrives to the TUF gym on fight day to give a pep talk to Gasparzinho and Rony Jason.

Rony “Jason” Mariano (10-3, Team Wanderlei) v. Anistavio “Gasparzinho” Medeiros (12-7, Team Vitor) TUF Brazil FW quarter-final

Round 1- Rony Jason lands a solid right hand and knee to the body but pauses for a moment after an accidental poke to Gasparzinho’s eye. Gasparzinho comes back and lands a huge right hook that drops Rony Jason. Gasparzinho goes for ground and pound but Rony Jason attempts an arm-bar. Gasparzinho tries to shake out of the hold but is unable to do so and is forced to submit. It appears Gasparzinho verbally submit and may have injured his arm.

Rony “Jason” Mariano def. Anistavio “Gasparzinho” Medeiros via submission (arm-bar) Round 1 (no time given) to advance to semi-finals of TUF Brazil FW tournament

Wanderlei Silva has words for Vitor Belfort after the fight in the octagon and says: “Are you happy now? Making two friends fight.” Vitor claims there was no other option but Wanderlei claims otherwise. Wanderlei and Vitor continue to argue and are held apart by referee Mario Yamasaki. Wanderlei is very upset despite his team winning for the first time in the competition. Belfort claims he did not know the two were friends and did not want to fight each other. Belfort also claims it was a team decision amongst his coaches for Gasparzinho to fight Rony Jason.

Vitor Belfort tells Gasparzinho that they showed that they may be friends but this is just a sport. Wanderlei tells Vitor to “go to hell.”

Andy Ogle (Team Faber) will fight Mike Rio (Team Cruz) on this episode to determine the eighth and final quarter-finalist next week.Ogle was Team Faber’s 7th pick, 14th overall in the draft while Mike Rio was Team Cruz’ 4th pick, 7th overall.

Dana White says he believes Chris Saunders won the first round of his fight last week but lost the second. Saunders won a split-decision after 2 rounds over Sam Sicilia on the last episode. Dana White says he believes the fight should have gone to a third round.

Chris Saunders celebration with the rest of Team Faber is shown.

Michael Chiesa (Team Faber) goes to the Team Cruz locker room to console his friend Sam Sicilia (Team Cruz).

Dana White gathers both coaches and their teams for the Coaches Challenge. The coaches have to go through a marksman obstacle course and are given the specifics by some United States Marines.

Dominick Cruz and Urijah Faber must climb up a 20 foot rope and hit a bell, they must then climb down and hit five 4inch metal targets with a M-9 pistol. They then roll a huge tire to the next station where they must fire an M-4 rifle in a kneeling position to hit a 12inch target at 50 yards and a 12inch target at 70 yards. They then have to carry a training dummy while zig-zagging through polls to the next station where they shoot an M-249 to hit 2 jars at 50 yards. Finally they must carry ten 35lbs. ammunition cases to the last station where they will fire the M-32 grenade launcher to hit 2 targets. The first coach to hit the two final targets wins the challenge.

Dana White gives $20,000 to the winning coach and $1,500 to each of their team members.

Dominick Cruz easily beats Urijah to the top of the rope climb and is off to the first shooting station. Cruz then goes through his 5 metal targets before Faber can knock down 2. Cruz speeds through the tire-flip and hits his target with the M-4 rifle, maintaining a lead over Faber. Cruz struggles hitting the 2 jars at 50 yards with the M-249 and Faber manages to catch up to Dominick and pass him in the race. Faber hits his two targets with the grenade launcher and comes back to win the marksman obstacle course and $20,000 for himself as well as $1,500 for each member of Team Faber.

Urijah Faber says Andy Ogle has strong stand-up but weak wrestling Faber expects Miek Rio to try and take the fight to the ground. Ogle says he’s going to make Mike scared to shoot. Ogle says he’s got a “f***ing large heart, and you’re going have to kill me to beat me.”

Mike Rio is a wrestler who says he never got into trouble because he was always training wrestling. Dominick Cruz says Rio has good striking and heavy hands but is best when he takes his opponent down and beat them up.

Dana White has a sit-down with Urijah Faber and Dominick Cruz to see who they want to see match-up in the quarter-finals. Cruz says his two top guys are Vinc Pichel (Team Cruz) and Justin Lawrence (Team Cruz). Faber says his top two are Al Iaquinta (Tam Faber) and Joe Proctor (Team Faber).
Cezar Mutante says Team Vitor’s motto is “Live for the moment.”

Rony Jason (Team Wanderlei) says he does not want to fight Gasparzinho (Team Vitor) because they have lived and trained together for two years.

Gasparzinho is anxious to get his fight over with.

Vitor Belfort says he and Wanderlei have agreed the next two fights will be at featherweight. Belfort says he was thinking about the previous fights and believes Macarrao (Team Wanderlei) deserves to be in the UFC despite his loss to Cezar Mutante in the previous episode.

Wanderlei Silva says he’s sick of hearing Vitor Belfort’s speeches.

Vitor Belfort selects Marcos Vinicius “Vina” Pancini (19-3, Team Wanderlei) to fight Hugo “Wolverine” Viana (5-0, Team Vitor) on this episode’s featherweight quarter-final. Vina was selected 5th by Team Wanderlei, 9th overall in the draft while Hugo Wolverine was selected 2nd by Team Vitor, 4th overall.

That means Gasparzinho will face Rony Jason in the final featherweight quarter-final bout on next week’s episode. Both fighters are upset they have to face each other. Wanderlei says there was no need for the friends to fight this early in the competition.

Hugo Wolverine says he has been a mixed-martial artist for two years and is also a physiotherapist. Wolverine says he started training martial arts at 9 years old. Wolverine says he gets his fighting spirit from his mother and his father is an intellectual. Wolverine’s father is a Federal Attorney who stressed education as a priority. Wolverine’s father paid for him to go to college and learn English.

Vina Pancini says he worked from the age of 12 to help his family. Pancini says he came from the slums. Vina says his mother let him open a small gym in their garage so he could train people. Vina begins to get emotional when he starts talking about people that he helps train that have no money. Vina says he takes from his own pocket to help others and wishes everyone could have some money in their pockets.

Godofredo Pepey (Team Vitor) says he’s not sure if the other fighters like him. Massaranduba (Team Wanderlei) says Pepey is very arrogant. Vina Pancini says he does not like Pepey and says he is not what a fighter should be. Vina says Pepey is rowdy and ignorant.

Vina Pancini says that on the day of your fight you’re allowed to make a special meal request. Hugo Wolverine orders a large order of Burger King so he can share with his teammates.

Marcos Vinicius “Vina” Pancini (19-3, Team Wanderlei) versus Hugo “Wolverine” Viana (5-0, Team Vitor) (TUF Brazil FW quarter-final)

Round 1- Wolverine charges in with a flurry of punches but Vina clinches him up against the cage and lands knees to the body. Wolverine pushes Vina away and lands a punch that makes Vina slip and fall to the mat. Vina gets to his feet and takes a punching combination to the head from Wolverine. Hugo Wolverine lands a kick to the body but Vina answers with a leg kick. Vina’s leg kick causes him to slip and fall to his back on the mat. Wolverine looks for an opening from the standing position but is unable to land and the referee makes Vina stand. Wolverine lands punches to the body and a takedown in the final minute of the round. Wolerine lands wild punches from the guard as the round comes to a close. I would score Round 1 for Hugo Wolverine: 10-9

Round 2- Vina lands a solid leg kick and blocks Wolverine’s punching combo in the opening minute of the round. Vina lands a spinning back kick to the body but Wolverine hits back with a leg kick. Vina shoots in for a takedown but is unable to keep Wolverine on the mat. Vina keeps a clinch on Wolverine and lands several solid knees to the body. Vina lands a punch to the head and clinches with Wolverine against the cage. Wolverine lands a leg kick but Vina lands a right hand and continues to stay out of range of Wolverine’s punches. Wolverine lands another leg kick and a body kick and the fighters exchange punches as the round comes to an end. I would score Round 2 for Vina Pancini: 10-9

Hugo”Wolverine” Viana def. Marcos Vinicius “Vina” Pancini via unanimous decision (no score given) to advance to semi-finals of TUF Brazil featherweight tournament.

Vitor Belfort is pleased and says his goal is to have all 8 of his fighters reach the semi-finals.

Hugo Wolverine says he was crying after the fight but his coaches told him to stop crying because there are more fights ahead.

Team Wanderlei coach Rafael Cordeiro tells Vina that they were telling him to take Wolverine down and attack but he was not listening. Wanderlei Silva says his team is not listening to his coaches and they are not able to “engage with these guys.” Wanderlei is frustrated after 6 straight losses and no victories. Rafael Cordeiro says the fighters are all diamonds in the rough that need to be polished. But it feels like the guys are not trusting the hands that are trying to polish them.

Lyoto Machida comes to the house to talk to the fighters. All the competitors are happy to see Machida. Machida tells the fighters to act like champions and be respectful at all times. Machida gives the fighters a nice pep talk that everyone appreciates.

Montreal,Quebec-UFC welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre spoke about Alistair Overeem’s recent drug-test failure and random drug testing in MMA. St-Pierre has faced steroid accusations in the past, most notably from B.J. Penn after Penn was defeated by GSP for a second time. St-Pierre says he welcomes random drug testing and would even welcome tougher testing for MMA.

“I just heard this morning. I heard this morning that Overeem got caught with high levels of testosterone,” St-Pierre said at a press conference to announce a new sponsorship deal with 888 Poker. “I’ve met Overeem some times. We’ve crossed paths because of media conference. He’s a very nice person but I don’t know him personally. I don’t know what he does and where he trains and stuff.”

“I just don’t know. It’s his thing. If he got caught doing it, it’s bad for him, bad for the sport,” said St-Pierre. “I think they should do more random tests. I think it’s the case… I think it was a random test.”

St-Pierre says that because the sport is just starting to become profitable, more people will seek to gain an unfair advantage to reach the upper echelon. “I think they should do that more (random drug tests). Because, the thing is, you see it a lot, from the Olympic games to every major sport. Our sport is relatively very young,” St-Pierre said. “Before you didn’t have a lot of money in mixed-martial-arts but now it’s become very popular. The more money there is involved in a sport, the more things like that will happen. People want the money and they want to be number one. They want to do everything to achieve their goals. So, I think they should do more random tests.”

While speaking in French, St-Pierre affirmed his desire for purity in his sport and his desire to always have a fair fight. “As an athlete, we don’t want to fight someone who has an unfair advantage or is cheating. I work hard to be where I am and I want it to be a fair fight. I want my opponent to work hard too and for the best man to win. I don’t want any injustice when I enter the octagon,” said St-Pierre.

Nevada is the only state to offer out-of-competition drug testing for MMA competitors. Overeem’s drug-test failure was part of the random out-of-competition tests executed by the state. Overeem was tested on March 27 in anticipation of his scheduled May 26 bout for the UFC heavyweight championship versus Junior Dos Santos. Despite, Nevada’s dedication to out-of-competition drug testing, they remain the only state or province to do so. Something St-Pierre hopes is rectified for the many fights that take place outside of Nevada. “We’ll see in the future what’s gonna happen. But me, I’m up for it. I think it should be like that. Random tests, more often,” said St-Pierre.
