In another featured bout that could steal the show, Ringside Featherweight Champion Mitch Gagnon is dropping to Bantamweight to challenge Stephane Pelletier for his Ringside Bantamweight title. Gagnon who won the Featherweight title after defeating Guillaume Lamarche in April of 2010, has gone on to defend that championship once against Rejean Groulx in what may be fight of the year in Quebec MMA. Now he’s attempting to hold to titles in two different weight classes, but he has a huge challenge ahead in Pelletier, who has gone 5-o since debuting in the company and defeated Dimitro Waardenburg in his last bout to capture the championship.

Mike Ricci was scheduled to face Kurt Southern for the  Ringside Lightweight title, a title that was vacated by Guillaume de Lorenzi, but due to injury Southern has been forced to pull out of the fight, and we are still waiting for Ricci’s opponent to be named.

Ringside MMA’s Welterweight champion Chris Clements recently also captured Professional Fighting Championship Welterweight title after defeating Travis Briere on July 16th in Windsor, Ontario. No word yet if he will be unifying the Ringside Welterweight title with Interim champion Seth Baczynski.

Since losing his last bout against Baczynski, Alex “The Animal” Garcia returns to the cage in welterweight action against Matt MacGrath.

Due to the rules of Bellator, Nick Thompson, who never won a tournament was not granted a title shot against Welterweight champion Ben Askren on Saturday, but to spice up the card Bellator put the two in a super fight that saw the champ prevail nonetheless. Jay Hieron and Michael Chandler went the distance to earn their places in the welterweight and light weight tournament finals respectively. Hieron will now face Rick Hawn in the tournament finals to see who gets the next shot at Askren, while Chandler will face Patricky “Pitbull” Friere for a shot at Eddie Alvarez.

At Ringside MMA 10 at the Bell Centre, Pat Cote decisions Starnes in a 3 round war, Seth Baczynski delivered Alex Garcia his first ever loss, and Mitch Gagon and Rejean Groulx battled in a featherweight championship bout that could go down as fight of the year. Dan Bobish’s Ultimate Cage Battles presented “Stars and Stripes” in front of 2,000 fans in Northeast Ohio. The main event featured Black House product Eduardo Pamplona picking up his ninth straight victory, as he earned a TKO victory over Finney’s H.I.T. Squad product Joe Bunch. Ohio fighters “Cujo” Joe McCall, Matt Masterson, and Torrance Taylor also picked up impressive victories over some of the toughest competition from surrounding states. Ultimate Cage Battles will return to Northeast Ohio on June 25, 2011.

Valerie Letourneau and Julie Malenfant were apprehensive to commit in the first round and landed very few strikes but Letourneau landed a solid kick to the body that dropped Malenfant in round 2. Letourneau then scored two punches before the referee intervened to stop the fight and give Letourneau the TKO victory.

Lenard Terrance scored vicious head-kick that knocked Robert Masson unconscious for the first round finish. Terrance appeared to have injured his foot with the knockout kick as it was severely bruised and may have been broken.

Kevin Morin was able to control the action in the first round with a takedown and some ground and pound of Guillaume Lamarche. Morin landed another takedown in the second round but Lamarche almost secured a kimura-armbar but time ran out in the period. Morin landed another takedown in the third round and scored with several heavy punches while standing in Lamarche’s guard. Morin continued to ground and pound Lamarche as time expired in the final round. The judges awarded the fight to Kevin Morin via unanimous decision.

Mike Ricci landed a slick take-down and followed up with some heavy punches and elbows from the mount position to score the TKO victory over Jesse Ronson in the first round.

Derek Gauthier and Iraj Hadin battled for three round. The first round was hard fought on both sides but Gauthier seemed to slow down in rounds two and three, opening the door for Hadin to control the action. The judges scored the bout 30-27, 30-27, 29-28 all in favour of Iraj Hadin.

Roger Hollett was on top of Martin Desilets for the majority of the first round with Desilets struggling to get off his back. Roger Hollett took advantage of a tired Desilets and rocked him with a heavy right hand then hammered another right hand that knocked him out in the second round.

Rejean Groulx and Mitch Gagnon had a fast-paced back and forth first round that electrified the Bell Centre crowd. Gagnon nearly secured a rear-naked choke and an arm-bar in the round and both fighters exchanged flurries of punches. Gagnon scored a takedown early in the second round and was almost able to secure a rear-naked choke but Groulx was able to reverse position and escape. Groulx attempted his own rear-naked choke but was unable to submit Gagnon as the time elapsed in the second round. The high-paced grappling resumed in the third round with Mitch Gagnon attempting a rear-naked choke but Groulx escaping and almost securing a kimura. Gagnon picked up Groulx and slammed him to the mat, and Groulx landed har don his head. Groulx immediately covered up and was hit with a few punches before tapping out due to strikes.

Alex Garcia and Seth Baczynski had a hard-fought first round with Garcia landing a big slam but Baczynski ending the round striking from the mount. Baczynski and Garcia threw wild hands in the second round and Baczynski was left bleeding. Garcia took Baczynksi down but Baczynksi was able to reverse the position and score some heavy hands from the guard of Garcia. After a few big punches, Garcia was rendered unconscious and the referee intervened. Seth Baczynski scores the victory, handing Alex Garcia his first professional loss and winning the interim Ringside MMA welterweight championship.

Kalib Starnes controlled the entire first round with a takedown and immediately took the back of Patrick Cote and tried to sink in a rear-naked choke. Cote survived the position and the first round and landed some heavy punches the second. Cote controlled the pace of the second round and landed some big elbows from the guard of Starnes after a takedown. Cote countered a takedown attempt in the third round and landed on top of Kalib Starnes to continue his ground and pound assault from the guard.  Starnes was able to improve his position and get to his feet but was unable to land anything significant as time expired in the final round. The judges scored the fight unanimously for Patrick Cote in his Ringside MMA debut.

Martin Desilets replaces an injured Steve Bosse against Roger Hollett in the co-main event. Desilets and Hollett had the most intense stare-down of the afternoon as Desilets pushed Hollett causing members of the commission and Ringside staff to step between the light-heavyweights.

Alex Garcia and Ultimate Fighter 11 contestant Seth Baczynski were on weight for their interim welterweight title bout. Chris Clements in the Ringside welterweight champion but was unable to face Garcia due to an injury sustained in training camp. Mitch Gagnon weighed in at 144.8 lbs. for his featherweight title defense against undefeated Rejean “G n’ P” Groulx.

Mike Ricci was the only fighter unable to make weight as he was 6 ounces over the limit at 156.6 lbs.. Ricci returns to Montreal after a loss in Bellator in April 2010 in his last bout. Valerie Letourneau will be making her return after not fighting since February 2009. Letourneau will face the debuting Julie Malenfant in the lone female bout, set to open the card.

Robert Masson arrived late to the weigh-ins but will face Lenard “LT” Terrance in their rematch from January that ended with a broken finger for Masson and a TKO win due to injury for Terrance.
