The Rock’s grand return to WWE, the bitter rivalry for the World Heavyweight Championship between Randy Orton and Christian, the pipebomb promo CM Punk dropped, all in The Best of Raw and Smackdown 2011 DVD.

Four discs filled with many shocking and emotional moments coming from both shows. On Smackdown, The retirement of Edge and having to give up the World Heavyweight Championship came out of nowhere. The rise of Sin Cara in WWE as he faces off with some of the best in WWE in Daniel Bryan, Christian, and having a Mask VS. Mask match against another wrestler also called Sin Cara.

The Rock first promo bashing John Cena and making fun of Michael Cole is featured, but unfortunately the moments where The Rock was physically involved with Cena are only in the Blu-Ray edition. Stone Cold Steve Austin’s return along with JBL’s short return is also in the DVD set, for fans of the WWE Attitude era there were particular moments that were worth watching. The most controversial RAW moment of 2011 was Punk’s shoot on how he does not like the way WWE is ran. Vince McMahon being relived of his duties is shown soon afterwards, watching the DVD set you can tell WWE was extremely interesting to watch in the summer of 2011.

Usually WWE releases a Best of Smackdown or Best of RAW box set, but this flows a lot better. The switch between the heavy drama that goes on in RAW compared to the amount of action that occurs on Smackdown, fans get a great variety of matches and promos as a result. If you missed or want to relive WWE 2011, this set is a great way to do it. However the Blu-ray edition is the complete version.

An MMA fighter grabs a woman by the throat and threatens violence or a sexual act and yet the filmmakers are able to turn One For The Money into a goofy comedy in a matter of seconds.

Katherine Heigl stars as Stephanie Plum an unemployed woman who still depends on her parents for support, decides to make a drastic career change, by becoming a bounty hunter. Plum’s first assignment is to go after the first love of her life that broke her heart, Joe Morelli (Jason O’Mara).

Plum starts off as a terrible bounty hunter as Morelli, a cop on the run, is able to outwit and embarrass her every time. This promotes Plum to get some help from an experienced hunter, Ranger (Daniel Sunjata). Ranger teaches Plum how to handle a gun, setup a target, and not to fall for her ex-love so easily.

Attempts at comedy fall short in this flick, a lot of the jokes revolve around making fun of Plum for being so clueless in a serious situation. It’s hard to laugh as a caged fighter stalks her in a cage or when a car blows up just outside her place. Yet, the direction always comes back to joking about how close death came to the main characters.

The romance between Plum and Morelli is also disappointing as Morelli treats her like she is a complete idiot, but she cannot help but fall for his good looks and charming wit. Ranger and Plum have a lot more interesting chemistry in the teacher/student roles, but besides Plum teases Ranger about being naked in a shower there is barely any sexual tension between the two.

Far from the best movie Heigt has starred in. She tries to play a strong female character, but the consistent mocking of her throughout the entire flick makes it hard to enjoy her growth to a real bounty hunter. Passable for a couple that likes to make fun of a struggling single woman.

One For The Money

Rated PG-13

Directed by Julie Anne Robinson

In theatres now

When Pro Wrestling Legend Diamond Dallas Page inured his neck it changed his life, and he reluctantly began training Yoga instead of surgery. Seeing all the great benefits of the workouts, DDP took it a set further in releasing a series of vigorous non traditional Yoga workout DVDs . DDP believes that his workouts will change the way all athletes workout, including MMA fighters and is ready to introduce his product to them to take their training to another level.

DDPYoga is a six DVD set with six intense workouts to improve and build strength in your knees, hips, shoulders, back and most importantly your core. The six DVD set includes:

-Diamond Dozen

-Energy

-Fat Burner

-Red Hot Core

-The Diamond Cutter

-Below the Belt

Each DVD has a specific workout that targets all body parts, makes you sweat a lot for an intense workout that can be compared to any other type of workout, be it kickboxing, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, running, weight lifting without any impact!

DDP gets you really pumped up and motivated while working out and gives positive energy that over time these workouts will be like second nature and you sculpt your body as some of the people in his workouts have drastically improved the strength and lost weight doing them. DDP implicates a lot of pro wrestling innuendo throughout his workout the “Diamond Cutter” including the “Show Stopper” (reference to Shawn Michaels) as you stand in warrior position and slowly flex your arms in and out like Michaels’ did during his entrance. As well as the “Hulk Out” (in reference to one of Hulk Hogan’s poses) in which you bring your arms to a “T” and bring them in flexing as hard as you can.

The “Diamond Cutter” is one of the toughest, and most rewarding workouts that I’ve every done.

Check out www.ringsidereport.net as more DDPYoga DVD reviews will be posted shortly.

Star Wars-like air battles in World War II, battling the adversities of being coloured in a white man’s war, only two of many compelling reasons to check out the new action film Red Tails.

Based on true events, a group of African American pilots situated in 1944 Italy are given flight missions that never sees them in heart of the battlefield. ‘Easy’ (Nate Parker), ‘Lightning’ (David Oyelowo), ‘Joker’ (Elijah Kelley) and ‘Junior’ (Tristan Wilds), is the Red Tails squad focused on throughout. Easy is the leader of the group, but Lightning is the best pilot and likes to do his own thing.

Easy and Lighting are best friends, but they are at odds with each other due to Lightning not respecting authority. Lightning’s carefree lifestyle leads him to a beautiful woman Sofia (Daneila Ruah) who he falls deeply in love with despite their different languages. Lightning also discovers that military bars are off limits to negros. Lightning does not take that well and ends up in a fight nearly canning all of the Red Tails.

Eventually, thanks to the persistence of Colonel A.J. Bullard (Terrence Howard), the Red Tails finally get a chance to prove themselves. Executive producer George Lucas delivers in the CG fighter battle graphics. Fast-paced and explosive best describes all the action. The Red Tails are nearly unstoppable against the Germans, though their own personal demons put them in serious risk.

At times the lines can be cheesy, but can also be funny and inspirational. The emotional roller coaster of friends battling each other and the racial tension runs high. Many times the air battles seem unrealistic as the Red Tails defeat so many enemies without losing a single old plane. Fun for the fights in the air, but the story can be silly and goofy at times.

Red Tails

20th Century Fox

Run time of 121 minutes

In theatres now

The celebrity fitness trainer has released two new workouts using the Power Pyramid Training method. With an upper body and lower body workout, Warner pushes your muscles to the limit with two powerful exercises combined into one set. The reps start off low, but continue to raise as you switch back and forth between the exercises. In the beginning of the DVD, Warner explains the method and the recommended hand weights depending on your sex. You have the option of watching either workout individually or collectively with both starting with some light stretching.

Push-ups and hammer curls is the first exercise in the upper body section. Every exercise must build up to 10 reps for each exercise. Start off at 1 for each seems like no problem and for many getting up for 10 may not be difficult. However, the switch to chest press and bicep curl will start to test your endurance level. There are about three straight chest and bicep exercises before you work out triceps the rest of the routine along with back and shoulders. With the correct weight you can easily burn a lot of fat and tighten almost your entire upper body.

Lower body exercises might be a little deceiving as one of the exercises in a set is combined with a shoulders exercise. With squats mixed with shoulder raises, two abs exercises combined, this one can feel a lot like a whole body workout instead of just targeting the lower body. No question this one is challenging even though there are no hand weights for the last few sets. With consistency even those that rarely workout can see results. Each workout is under 25 minutes, not taking up too much of your time to watch, but guaranteed they’re very intense minutes.

The friendship between a young boy and his horse is tested through the chaotic rampage of World War I as they fight desperately to find one another in Steven Spielberg’s latest film, War Horse.

Jeremy Irvine stars as Albert Narracott, a young farm boy who develops a strong bond with a horse he decides to call Joey. Following his father (Peter Mullan) overbidding to win the horse, Albert is forced to try and get Joey to work the near impossible fields on the farm. As Albert gains Joey’s trust and learns how to ride Joey the pressure of paying bills pushes Albert’s father to sell Joey away for duty in World War I. The sale sparks off a series of adventures Joey embarks on during the war, losing many owners along the way.

The cinematography is truly breathtaking at times, the vast open fields with Albert or Joey running or the grim bloody battlefields filled with dead bodies, Spielberg brings a vast array of emotions to the screen just by the use of a tremendous score and well-edited visuals. A lot of the movie is just people talking to the horse, but every person he meets has their own story, changing the direction for a few minutes but always giving you a reason to cheer for Joey. The interaction between Joey and Emilie (Celine Buckens), a girl who lost her parents during the war, is playful and a cute scene as she tries to teach Joey how to jump correctly. While there are happy moments there is a lot of sadness due to the war and the outbreak of random violence that arrives at any moment.

The first half of the flick only focuses on Albert and Joey’s relationship. The other half is Joey in the war and near the very end Albert secretly enlists. If you’re looking for a war movie you will be sadly mistaken, although the war scenes are as engaging and suspenseful like Saving Private Ryan and Band of Brothers. Fans of war movies will be left wanting more by the end.

Due to the violent nature of the movie this gets a higher rating than most Disney productions, great for an older audience but way too mature for children. While there a few funny moments there is a lot serious issues, making it a tear-eyed experience at times. Highly expect War Horse to win awards for the amazing look and presentation.

A 40-year-old murder mystery, violent rape, torturous beatings, and the dark musical talent of Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross make The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo a heart-racing thrilling experience from start to finish.

Journalist Mikael Blomkvist (Daniel Craig) is under investigation for libelous comments that could potentially end his career. However, a wealthy man by the name of Henrik Vanger (Christopher Plummer) offers Blomkvist a way to defuse his legal problems and make him a lot richer. Vanger needs help with figuring out how his niece Greta was murdered 40 years ago. Due to the background check done by researcher/hacker Lisbeth Salander (Rooney Mara) Vanger believes Blomkvist is the perfect investigator.

The film is focused mainly on two stories, Blomkvist interviewing and getting suspicious answers from Vanger’s family, and the difficult life of Salander. Salander is a bright anti-social punk who is living on welfare due to her inability to function properly in society. Her social worker takes advantage of her weakness and forces her into disturbing sexual acts. Salander does fight back, but the damage of the abuse make her a cold and robotic force of destruction. Fortunately, for Blomkvist this ends up being a major help to his investigation when he decides to recruit her to the case. Both of them end up putting together more pieces to the mystery that went unnoticed, resulting in Blomkvist getting shot at with a hunting rifle and brutally beaten.

The cold winter and dark environments are given a gloomy and eerie feel thanks to the music provided by Reznor and Ross throughout. There are many moments where so much is occurring in a short time span that it can be difficult to keep up with the twists and turns of the story. Even though it is 158 minutes long the ending feels very rushed, but thankfully the quick action is all explained at the very end.

This one is not for the weak of heart, the rape scene is extremely unpleasant to watch and the aftermath can be very difficult to stomach. However, the suspense in The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo is quite possibly some of the best you will ever see in a movie this year and any other year. The acting performances of Craig and especially Mara help draw you into this dark tale as both bring their characters to so many raw emotional levels. Their chemistry will leave you wanting to see them together again in the sequel. As long as you can handle strong graphic content make this you’re last watch of the year, the experience is a must. Never read the books, but badly want to after watching this.

Alvin’s quest to drive his father Dave to a nervous breakdown continues when Alvin loses control of a hang glider in the third installment of the Alvin and the Chipmunks: Chipwrecked.

Dave (Jason Lee) is taking the Chipmunks and Chipettes on a cruise right before they perform at the International Music Awards. However, Alvin’s mischief ends up with all the chipmunks getting knocked off the cruise ship and stranded on a desert island. Dave tries to save them, but along with his nemesis Ian (David Cross) they are lost at sea and stranded on a different part of the island.

On the mysterious island the chipmunks discover an islander by the name of Zoe (Jenny Slate) who has gone a little crazy thanks to the spider bites she has been receiving. Simon ends up with spider venom causing him to act completely different from the uptight personality he is. Alvin and Brittany end up switching roles with Simon and Jeanette as the troublemakers become the more responsible ones.

The film is divided into the comedy between Dave and Ian and the musical numbers/misadventures of the chipmunks. The musical numbers are not usually very long, only small memorable lines from some pop songs. The war of words between Dave and Ian is refreshing from the family entertainment throughout the majority of the flick.

In the end this movie is for families looking for lighthearted humour and to inform parents of new chipmunk merchandise available now. It is far from a long feature as it feels like a very long chipmunk cartoon with a few twists and turns.

One of the biggest WWE events from 1993 to 2002 was the King of the Ring event that every year featured a grueling tournament and some of the greatest matches in WWE history.

Mankind versus The Undertaker in a Hell in a Cell match, Kurt Angle VS. Shane McMahon in a Street Fight, the end of Hulkamania when Yokozuna defeated Hulk Hogan to capture the WWE Championship, are just a few matches considered some of the memorable matches that took place at the retired PPV spectacular.

The main idea behind the KOTR was to elevate a superstar to the main event scene or towards a reign as WWE Champion. Despite a few exceptions, the KOTR is rich in crowning some of the biggest superstars to ever compete in the squared circle. Bret ‘Hitman’ Hart, Stone Cold Steve Austin, Kurt Angle, Edge, all their quests to capture the KOTR crown is featured. Hart is considered the only star to capture the KOTR twice as the WWE officially counts the tournaments WWE held in the 80′s, although ’93 is the first one shown.

Rarely shown on WWE home video releases, Brock Lesnar and Owen Hart’s KOTR wins help give new fans an idea of the great in-ring ability Owen Hart had in the ring. For fans that only saw Lesnar compete in mixed martial arts, his rise to the top in the WWE started against Rob Van Dam in the last KOTR shown on PPV. WWE does include the return of the tourney in 2006 when Bobby Lashley battled Booker T. The KOTR finals of 2008 and 2010 are also included, CM Punk against William Regal is one of the hardest hitting bouts on the set.

A great blast from the past for older WWE fans and a must for new WWE fans that never saw the 90′s era or WWE in the early 21st century. While it is a great set there is definitely a few great matches that could have been added, Kane VS. Austin from KOTR ’98 and Owen Hart VS. 1-2-3 Kid are just two of many great encounters not listed.

From July 2010 to June 2011, UFC: 116 to UFC: 131 including UFC: Fight Night 22, 23, 24, UFC: Live 2, 3, 4 and one disc filled with bonus fights and UFC featurettes including Best of Rogan 1-on-1, Best of Unguarded and many more. 20-discs of past UFC events all redone with new DVD menus and extra content not on the individual UFC event DVD releases. Nearly all the main event fights have extra previews and post-fight interviews added to them giving fans an idea of how the fights came together and how the fighters handled the results.

Brock Lesnar’s emotional comeback tap out win of Shane Carwin, the near defeat of Anderson Silva by Chael Sonnen, the rise of Jon Jones to UFC Lightheavyweight champion and so much more unforgettable UFC moments included in this box set. Unfortunately, not every fight is included from every event listed though. Many prelim matches are missing and even fights that made the main card are also not listed. UFC looked as if they made the decision on what was the best fights on the shows and cut the ones that were not as exciting. Shockingly they kept the lackluster main event of UFC: 119 in the set, Frank Mir Vs Mirko CroCop.

Fight fans that wanted every single fight from mid 2010 to mid 2011 will be out of luck, however, this unique collection is still worth buying. Never before has the UFC released such an extensive box set making it a great buy for new UFC fans who missed a few events. Easily by the end of the hours and hours of action you will understand why Georges St-Pierre, Quinton Rampage Jackson, Frankie Edgar, and many more are true stars in all of mixed martial arts. Simply a great holidays gift for any UFC fan.
