Weeks prior to the event, Punk completely shook up the WWE by giving a harsh promo on the state of WWE. Punk was suspended, but returned a week later to a hero’s welcome. Punk related to a lot of feelings and emotions that long-time fans felt about WWE and finally got the message sent to Vince McMahon. Punk talked about departed talent and outside federations that he was planning to return once his contract expired after MITB.
In Punk’s hometown of Chicago, the Cena VS. Punk match was given a WrestleMania feel due to the importance of the match. Punk was set to leave the WWE and if Cena lost McMahon was going to fire Cena. For over 30 minutes Cena and Punk clashed and the outcome left everyone stunned. McMahon was soon removed off his duties on WWE TV as a result of Punk’s surprise upset.
MITB also had a stellar undercard as it kicked off with the Smackdown MITB match featuring some of the dangerous and craziest moments ever in a MITB match. Sheamus delivering a powerbomb to Sin Cara onto a ladder was one of many highlights that made the match. The RAW MITB match also had some amazing spots thanks to the aerial attacks of Evan Bourne, Kofi Kingston and Rey Mysterio.
Canadian wrestler Christian recaptured the World Heavyweight Championship with a controversial victory over Randy Orton. Christian used the stipulation of if Orton gets disqualified then Christian wins the title. Christian spat down the mouth of Orton which resulted in Orton losing his mind and getting DQed.
It is rare that a non-WrestleMania event is considered the biggest and best pay-per-view for WWE in any year, but easily this could be the best one WWE has produced in years. Fans of ladder matches and Punk have to have this DVD.
