The rematch of arguably the fight of the year between Frankie Edgar and Gray Maynard for the Ultimate Fighting Championship Lightweight Title gave fight fans a finish to the spectacular trilogy at UFC 136.

On Jan. 1, 2011, Edgar and Maynard fought to a close draw. For almost a year UFC fans had to wait for the rematch to occur. Fortunately, the wait was well worth it. The third and final bout felt like deja vu at first with Maynard coming out strong in the first round with a furious onslaught. Maynard looked to have Edgar beat, but somehow Edgar was able to get up from the bombs Maynard was landing. In the second and third rounds Maynard looked gassed from his near win as Edgar started to gain momentum and started to take control of the fight. Unlike their new year’s day fight, this time there was a clear winner via TKO.

In possibly his last UFC title bout, Kenny Florian dropped weight to face UFC Featherweight Champion Jose Aldo. Aldo has looked almost untouchable since winning the championship and continue to look so against Florian. Aldo used his lethal kicks to slow down Florian and nearly stuffed all of Florian’s takedown attempts. In the championship rounds it looked like a struggle for Florian to continue as the welts on his legs continue to grow in colour.

Leonard Garcia continued to give fans of his work another outstanding performance in his rematch with Nam Phan. Garcia won the last one by a controversial split decision. This one ended up in a unanimous decision victory in favour of Phan, but it still a very close and entertaining fight. Garcia knew that Phan had won the first round and came back firing wildly in order to win the last rounds. While Garcia ate a lot of wild jabs, he also gave his fair share as well. In the most dominate performance of the night, Chael Sonnen submitted Brian Stann in the second round. While it took Sonnen a few minutes there was no question he was going to win the fight right from the start, barely giving Stann any chance to hit him. Sonnen immediately challenged Anderson Silva following the win and that got a laugh from the Middleweight Champion.

Eight fights went the distance at UFC 136, making it the longest UFC event of all-time. Even with the long grueling bouts there are still great submission endings, which include the 47 second victory Joe Lauzon scored over Melvin Guillard. Although this is becoming a familiar pattern with the 2011 UFC DVDs, this was definitely a must see show and delivered in almost every aspect for MMA fans.

The first title defence of the new fastest rising Ultimate Fighting Championship star Jon Jones against UFC legend and Hollywood actor Quinton Rampage Jackson ended in surprising submission fashion at UFC: 135.

Jackson was last submitted back in 2001, but this was the first time he tapped out in the UFC and in a championship bout. Jones’ unorthodox style shocked Jackson at first, who was already battling the reach advantage the Lightheavyweight champion had. For almost four rounds Jones dominated Jackson who could not get close enough without getting kicked or punched in the face. Jones admitted in the press conference extra content that he was a lot more cautious than in his previous fights due to the knockout power of Jackson’s punches. Slower and less exciting bout from Jones’ past battles, but it is still impressive Jones was able to slowly lock Jackson in a rear naked choke as the experienced Jackson had no answer for it.

In the only fight for UFC Hall-of-Famer Matt Hughes in 2011 he was knocked out at 4:59 of the first round by a returning Josh Koscheck. Koscheck made a successful return after breaking one of his orbital bones against Quebec’s Georges St-Pierre. Both fighters looked cautious to start, but Koscheck caught Hughes and laided down some heavy bombs to end the match. The UFC wanted Hughes to announce his retirement, but the first statement from him is that he is not retiring.

Nate Diaz made a major statement when he returned to the lightweight ranks against Pride legend Takanori Gomi. Diaz scored the submission of the night by catching Gomi in an armbar in the final seconds of the first round. Diaz looked quicker at this weight compared to his welterweight fights and proved he could easily be a top contender threat in the not too distant future.

There is the usual behind the scenes featurette, but the extra press conference comments between Rampage and Jones gives fans closure to their conflict. Jones explains that he was disrespect due to Rampage putting him down and making him look unworthy to be champion. Both explain that their beef is over, although their beef with Rashad Evans still continues to this day.

UFC: 135 offered some intriguing matchups. Travis Browne against Rob Broughton was far from a fighting classic, but watching a gassed Broughton do his best to fight on is great to watch. Broughton looked like he was going to pass out on his feet at any moment especially with Browne nailing him over and over. While the main event was not the most exciting fight, the rest of the card was near top-notch.

One of the biggest WWE events from 1993 to 2002 was the King of the Ring event that every year featured a grueling tournament and some of the greatest matches in WWE history.

Mankind versus The Undertaker in a Hell in a Cell match, Kurt Angle VS. Shane McMahon in a Street Fight, the end of Hulkamania when Yokozuna defeated Hulk Hogan to capture the WWE Championship, are just a few matches considered some of the memorable matches that took place at the retired PPV spectacular.

The main idea behind the KOTR was to elevate a superstar to the main event scene or towards a reign as WWE Champion. Despite a few exceptions, the KOTR is rich in crowning some of the biggest superstars to ever compete in the squared circle. Bret ‘Hitman’ Hart, Stone Cold Steve Austin, Kurt Angle, Edge, all their quests to capture the KOTR crown is featured. Hart is considered the only star to capture the KOTR twice as the WWE officially counts the tournaments WWE held in the 80′s, although ’93 is the first one shown.

Rarely shown on WWE home video releases, Brock Lesnar and Owen Hart’s KOTR wins help give new fans an idea of the great in-ring ability Owen Hart had in the ring. For fans that only saw Lesnar compete in mixed martial arts, his rise to the top in the WWE started against Rob Van Dam in the last KOTR shown on PPV. WWE does include the return of the tourney in 2006 when Bobby Lashley battled Booker T. The KOTR finals of 2008 and 2010 are also included, CM Punk against William Regal is one of the hardest hitting bouts on the set.

A great blast from the past for older WWE fans and a must for new WWE fans that never saw the 90′s era or WWE in the early 21st century. While it is a great set there is definitely a few great matches that could have been added, Kane VS. Austin from KOTR ’98 and Owen Hart VS. 1-2-3 Kid are just two of many great encounters not listed.

From July 2010 to June 2011, UFC: 116 to UFC: 131 including UFC: Fight Night 22, 23, 24, UFC: Live 2, 3, 4 and one disc filled with bonus fights and UFC featurettes including Best of Rogan 1-on-1, Best of Unguarded and many more. 20-discs of past UFC events all redone with new DVD menus and extra content not on the individual UFC event DVD releases. Nearly all the main event fights have extra previews and post-fight interviews added to them giving fans an idea of how the fights came together and how the fighters handled the results.

Brock Lesnar’s emotional comeback tap out win of Shane Carwin, the near defeat of Anderson Silva by Chael Sonnen, the rise of Jon Jones to UFC Lightheavyweight champion and so much more unforgettable UFC moments included in this box set. Unfortunately, not every fight is included from every event listed though. Many prelim matches are missing and even fights that made the main card are also not listed. UFC looked as if they made the decision on what was the best fights on the shows and cut the ones that were not as exciting. Shockingly they kept the lackluster main event of UFC: 119 in the set, Frank Mir Vs Mirko CroCop.

Fight fans that wanted every single fight from mid 2010 to mid 2011 will be out of luck, however, this unique collection is still worth buying. Never before has the UFC released such an extensive box set making it a great buy for new UFC fans who missed a few events. Easily by the end of the hours and hours of action you will understand why Georges St-Pierre, Quinton Rampage Jackson, Frankie Edgar, and many more are true stars in all of mixed martial arts. Simply a great holidays gift for any UFC fan.

Plus, in the night’s co-main event, controversial middleweight contender Chael Sonnen battles the red-hot Mark “The Filipino Wrecking Machine” Munoz for the right to fight champion Anderson Silva. If that wasn’t enough, British star Michael “The Count” Bisping looks to earn a future crack at the middleweight title when he locks horns with dangerous grappler Demian Maia.

This outstanding two-hour broadcast airs live on FOX at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT.

History was made when the UFC® debuted on FOX in November, as 5.7 million viewers (8.8 million peak) tuned in to watch Cain Velasquez battle Junior dos Santos for the heavyweight title. Now, fight fans around the world can gear up for another incredible night of action inside the Octagon® live on FOX.

“This is the show that officially starts our deal with FOX and we’re bringing what the fans want – a night packed with great fights,” UFC President Dana White said. “We’re kicking this thing off with an incredible tripleheader. Rashad Evans looked fantastic in his last fight against Tito Ortiz and he wants to get the belt back. But Phil Davis is no joke. He’s undefeated at 9-0 and has stormed through guys like Brian Stann, Alexander Gustafsson and Rogerio Nogueira. He wants the title shot just as bad as Rashad.

“Chael Sonnen and Mark Munoz are going to collide to see who gets the next crack at Anderson Silva,” White continued. “Both of these guys are phenomenal wrestlers coming off big wins. Chael wants the chance to avenge his loss to Anderson. Mark wants a chance to prove that he’s the best 185-pounder in the world. Plus, we’ve got Michael Bisping against Demian Maia and the winner will be next in line for a title shot after the winner of Sonnen-Munoz.”

Former light heavyweight champion Rashad Evans (fighting out of Boca Raton, Fla.) has made it clear that he wants a chance to dethrone reigning champion Jon Jones in 2012. Before that can happen, he looks to extend his winning streak to four when he meets “Mr. Wonderful” in a No. 1 contender fight at the United Center. The 32-year-old Evans (21-1-1) dismantled Tito Ortiz in his last fight in August and believes a win over Davis will secure him the highly-coveted shot at the 205-pound title.

“Some people may say I’m already the No. 1 contender, but I’m a fighter not a critic and I will go through anybody who stands in my way until I got a shot at the UFC title,” Evans said. “Having the opportunity to prove that I’m the top contender in the division on FOX – the biggest stage there is – is just icing on the cake. I will leave no doubt that I’m the top guy in the light heavyweight division after my fight on FOX.”

Phil Davis (fighting out of San Diego, Calif.), 27, is arguably one of the fastest-rising stars in the sport thanks to an undefeated mark of 9-0, including five victories inside the Octagon®. Originally scheduled to fight Evans at UFC 133 before an injury forced his withdrawal, the former national champion wrestler at Penn State University is pleased the stars finally aligned for his much anticipated collision with the former champion.

“I am excited to be a part of the UFC on FOX in Chicago,” Davis said. “I was pretty upset when the fight with Rashad didn’t happen in August. I am ready for him now. He is one of the best guys in the world. I can’t wait and I’m confident that I’m going to win.”

Chael Sonnen (fighting out of West Linn, Ore.) continues his quest for a rematch with Anderson Silva on Jan. 28 when he meets Munoz on FOX. Following a loss to the champion in 2010, Sonnen returned to the Octagon® at UFC 136 and submitted the surging Brian Stann. He now faces Munoz, an opponent he once met in college while wrestling for the University of Oregon.

“This is competition between Mark Munoz and me,” Sonnen said. “We competed before, we will compete again. And when it is done, it will be one more in the win column, one more trophy above the mantle, and one more for the bad guy.”

Mark “The Filipino Wrecking Machine” Munoz (fighting out of Vallejo, Calif.) heads to Chicago fresh off a dominant stoppage victory over Chris Leben in the main event of UFC 138 in England in November. A winner of four straight, the former Division I national champion wrestler from Oklahoma State University now has his sights set on besting his friend turned temporary foe, Sonnen.

“Chael and I are friends and will remain friends long after this fight,” the 33-year-old Munoz said. “But make no mistake, when that cage door closes we will not hold back. We will show the world why we are the best at what we do.”

After battering Jason “Mayhem” Miller on Dec. 3, Michael Bisping (fighting out of Manchester, England) firmly believes that his time to fight for the middleweight title is approaching. A winner of four consecutive fights, including the last two by knockout, the 32-year-old leaves no doubt that his clash with Maia is the most important of his career.

“It is a huge honor to fight on American national television on FOX,” Bisping, owner of a 23-3 record said. “Going straight back into camp, missing Christmas, none of that even entered my mind. I want to earn my way to a title shot and fighting a former No. 1 challenger as dangerous as Maia is exactly the opportunity I have been hoping for. This is the most crucial fight of my life.”

Grappling sensation Demian Maia (fighting out of Sao Paulo, Brazil) has won two out of his last three bouts since dropping a decision to champion Silva in Abu Dhabi in 2010. The 34-year-old, who is a two-time world champion in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, has defeated high-caliber opponents such as Sonnen, Jorge Santiago, Kendall Grove and Dan Miller. When he meets Bisping next month, he knows that a win will put him right back into the title picture.

“I think Michael Bisping is a great fighter and will be one of the hardest fights I ever had,” Maia, 15-3, said. “Some people underrate him, but I think I can never underestimate him. I consider him one of the top contenders at middleweight. He is someone with only three losses in over 20 fights, with one of those losses coming to Rashad in a higher weight class. It shows how tough he is and the challenge that is ahead of me. I’m also very excited to be fighting in Chicago for the first time, a city where I spent part of some of my last training camps, and where I have a lot of friends. If that was not enough, on top of all that, fighting on FOX is a huge opportunity.”
