Diaz, making his first appearance in the UFC since 2006, was looking to set himself up for a championship welterweight bout against Georges St-Pierre. Diaz needed to get past Penn, a former welterweight champion and one of the most well-known mixed martial arts stars in the UFC. Diaz used cage control to his advantage to wear down Penn and expose Penn’s cardio issues in later rounds. Diaz came out strong in the second round, busting up Penn and giving him a crimson mask, a feat that no one else has ever done to Penn in the past.
After the fight, Penn announced his retirement, although has taken it back. Diaz’s post fight interview was cut short by the UFC, his first comments just come off as a beep noise, followed by a shorten version of his comments towards GSP and Penn. The rest of the DVDs are completely uncensored, especially the bloody end to the main event for UFC: 138 that saw Mark Munoz pound down on Chris Leben. Leben was having difficulty with his vision due to Munoz’s bombs, but the referee gave him a chance to continue even though Leben stated at first that he could not see.
For the price of one DVD, fans are getting close to 10 hours worth of fights and bonus packages. Despite UFC 138 being an event that was presented on television, it is a great event to watch again over due to the unique United Kingdom crowd atmosphere and the European style of MMA that is showcased against the rest of the world.
