Gamma Randori 5- Submission grappling results

The GAMMA Randori 5 submission grappling tournament took place on Saturday at the GAMMA gym (429 Mayor) in downtown Montreal. The tournament held four separate weight categories in two divisions. The Division 1 tournament was for grapplers with one year or less experience while the division 2 tourney was for competitors with 1-2 years experience.

The GAMMA gym represented on their home turf with four first place finishes, winning the Team Championship trophy on points. Adam Wyatt won his first match in the 195 lbs. + Division 1 tournament after Kevin Bissonette landed awkwardly on a takedown and severely dislocated his ankle. Wyatt then won the final against Chris Cleveland 14-2 on points to win his tournament for GAMMA.  Greg Dilella was able to secure a kimura arm-bar to submit his opponent and complete the sweep for GAMMA at heavyweight by taking the Division 2 gold medal.  

Kyle White and Darnell Jones were the only participants from Montreal South Shore gym 1XONE and were victorious in their Division 1 tournaments. White won the 150 lbs. tournament by winning 3 matches on the afternoon and took the final match on points against Emanuel Delcaourt from Team H20. Darnell Jones also won 3 matches to win the 165 lbs. tournament and just edged out Nathaniel Perl by taking the first point in a sudden-death overtime period after a 5 minute stalemate which saw no points scored.

Gabriel Hanes-Monfete won the 150 lbs. Division 2 tournament with an armbar submission in his only match. Pierre-Olivier Genest won Division 1 at 180 lbs. when his opponent neglected to show up for the final match after leaving with his injured teammate.

It was a fast-paced afternoon of fights at the GAMMA gym that was well worth the $10 for spectators. The GAMMA team was helped by pro MMA fighter Lee Villeneuve while Team H20 took second place in the tournament and was coached by MMA pro Richard Ho.
